[edit] Name boards

I have reverted the yellow background amendment to the template. The name boards idea was to emulate the style used on Wikipedia:WikiProject Underground - see West Ham tube station for an example. The infobox and succession templates were also based on the style used on LUL station articles. Making the whole background yellow destroys the concept of the nameboard altogether and makes the images redundant.

Fair enough, although the images aren't really redundant in this case as it's not possible to typeset the Calvert font. I've no strong feelings either way, but please make sure that the name boards are identical in size (height especially, but also wrap space either side), as at the moment the sizes seem a bit haphazard (for instance Regent Centre and Haymarket differ greatly from Monument), which makes the whole thing look a bit ugly, particularly when passing from one station page to the next.   johnwalton   (talk) 14:40, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
I feel that the nameboards are an unnecessary addition. Also, if the image server is having a bad day (as it does from time to time), it would mean that the infobox doesn't contain the station name at all. --RFBailey 22:26, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough. As mentioned, the infobox was based on the LUL one and they had similar nameboards. I thought they looked nice and in time would have tried to improve them in line with User:Johnwalton's comments above. It's pretty much a done deal anyway as User:Chriscf has removed the nameboards from all the station pages (and done the same to all LUL stations that had nameboards too) and marked the images for deletion. Following the outcome of the IfD and the deletion review at Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2007_March_29, I have restored the name board images. In the future I will improve the images to make them a standard size, but this may not be for a little while yet. DrFrench 22:53, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I've put the colour back in for now, as the Metro logo is missing. I think it looks better on the infoboxes where no graphic name is present. There is surely a better colour match than "yellow", though. If DrFrench or anyone really doesn't like it, I won't be upset if you take the colour out again.

However, now that many stations have pictures in which the station name board is prominent (in Calvert), we might want to consider the role of the graphic name tags, whether they should be added to some, all, or no stations, and if so why. ProhibitOnions (T) 15:15, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
