When to use this template
- This template can be used as an infobox for articles about any town, village, hamlet or other small place in Scotland.
- For England, use Template:Infobox England place
- For Wales, use Template:Infobox Wales place
- A different template should be used for articles about places in Northern Ireland.
How to use this template
Paste the following text into you article and then fill in the blanks as appropriate:

Notes
- If you don't know/can't be bothered with the old-maps link fields, just leave them blank for the moment.
- You can find the grid reference by locating the place at Get-a-map
- +44 is the UK international dialling code prefix.
Old Maps
The template parameters that begin with OldMaps are used to create a link to the Victorian Ordnance Survey maps at old-maps.co.uk.
Parameters
|OldMapsYear= The year of publication of the map |OldMapsEasting= This is the first part of the Grid Reference |OldMapsNorthing= This is the second part of the Grid Reference |OldMapsCounty= This is an optional code that identifies which map contains the place. See below. It is only needed if the place appears on more than one map.
How to create the link
- Go to old-maps.co.uk to locate the place you want. Sometimes places appear on more than one map. You will have to make a decision about which one to use.
- When you have found the map you want, the main page map (not the enlarged view) shows the required parameters just above the map.
- The year of publication is shown directly above the map in the center. For example:
Date: 1886
- The Easting and Northing coordinates are show as the grid reference directly above the map to the right. For example:
Grid Ref: 307026,207500
is Easting 307026 and Northing 207500. - If the place only appears on one map then you do not need to provide a value for the OldMapsCounty parameter. If the place appears on more than one map then, by default, the old-maps.co.uk link will take you to a page that lists all the maps on which your place appears. This is actually not a bad thing, but if you really want to lead the user directly to a map rather than giving them a choice, then you'll need to provide a value for this parameter. The County name is shown directly above the map to left. Look up the corresponding code in the table below and use that as the value for this parameter. For example:
County: MONMOUTHSHIRE
has a corresponding code of10monmo501
.
- The year of publication is shown directly above the map in the center. For example:

Constituency links
Should {westminster} be the same as {Constituency} in Template:Infobox_England_place? ie take you to (say) East Lothian (UK Parliament constituency) rather than East Lothian - Ditto for {Holyrood} to East Lothian (Scottish Parliament constituency) --Elwell 00:19, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
