[edit] Absurd

isn't it a bit absurd for these infoboxes to be using the maps and areas from before 1890 and yet attempting to give modern populations based on the immediately pre-1975 borders? i can try to dig out the more modern Scottish county maps and put them in, which may help. Morwen - Talk 15:35, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

There is no mention of what year the area figures are from (although it is somewhere pre 1890?), the population figures are for 2001, and the county boundaries they are applied to are for 1975. A very anachronistic collection of data! MRSC 19:03, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Not only is it anachronistic, it is totally and utterly unverifiable using Wikipedia-valid external sources. It is User:Owain's own original research gone mad. --Mais oui! 19:35, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

The template appears to me to be almost designed to produce nonsensical results. See also Talk:County of Nairn. Laurel Bush (talk) 16:38, 18 February 2008 (UTC).

The template can probably be replaced with {{Infobox historic subdivision}} in most cases. MRSCTalk 06:50, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Expand/refocus

I want to expand/refocus this infobox to cover details of registration counties and areas for Lord-Lieutenants. What kind of information could we add that would be of value? MRSCTalk 01:32, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Please, please, please, do not expand it. Sort it so that results when used might actually make sense. Laurel Bush (talk) 14:16, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Any expansion should make the infobox relevant to current status, such as registration county/lietenancy areas. I'm more minded to replace the template with something else. I've trialled this at Aberdeenshire (historic). Any thoughts? MRSCTalk 15:01, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Re counties two maps are needed, one until circa 1890, second circa 1890 until 1975. Re lietenancies, in various cases, eg Inverness, these no longer correspond with historic county areas. Let's sort things re counties first. I think lietenancies would be better covered by a separate template (which, again, would need more than one map, perhaps three, until circa 1890, circa 1890 to 1975, and 1975 to present. Laurel Bush (talk) 15:14, 19 February 2008 (UTC).

I am thinking now that this template is an attempt at something logically impossible, and, by some order of infinity, the template now used in Aberdeenshire (historic) a lot worse. Scotalnd is now just too complex to be divisible into any such neat little boxes. Laurel Bush (talk) 18:37, 19 February 2008 (UTC).

This template can possibly be adapted (and by adapted I mean start again). We just need something than can show 3 maps and the dates each area was operational. (We also need a full set of maps!) MRSCTalk 07:09, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
