[edit] Update suggestions

In coincidental honour of the template anniversary, I thought the existing was too gray, and made some attempts at revamping. The "esoteric syntax" isn't my game so I lifted from other boxes, but hopefully I have't made any gross mistakes so they should be a matter of substituting.

Please make suggestions. MURGH disc. 16:59, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

I have two comments and a question:
  • Production in cases (by 12 x 0,75 l) may be an understood measure to us wine nuts, but it would probably need either 1) to be linked to somewhere where this measure is explained, or 2) produce a text like "Production: x cases" when the template is used.
  • A varietal is "something that pertains to a variety", such as a varietal(ly pure) wine, seldom a Bordeaux phenomenon. The different grapes that you grow are varieties. While it's common to mix up these terms, it would be good to avoid this in the template.
  • And then the question: should I read this primarily as a Bordeaux template rather than a template for French wineries in general? I.e., should I start thinking about which fields that would be needed for Burgundy, Champagne, Alsace,... The differences could become quite large, I'm afraid. I've never done it, but it doesn't seem like the most difficult thing, to make a little conversion template, so next to "cases" a parenthesis liter figure.. or maybe bottles is equally helpful (albeit not very mathematically impressive)?

And yes, well pointed out. I changed the varietal line, but does that make it very Bdx specific beyond redemption? Is it depressingly difficult to make a box to fit all French (or even more widely useful)? Please do think about it  :^P MURGH disc. 18:07, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Bordeaux only is quite OK with me, but the template's name and the presence of prestige cuvée indicated to me that it could be meant for a wider purpose. About #cases - do whatever is practical, as long as it's obvious it's a production measure and it's possible to figure out the amount in other units! Also, if you want to save a few letters, I think that "grape varieties" is enough. Tomas e (talk) 18:59, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
I see DRC uses the infobox that states it's tailored for US wineries. Maybe accomodating non-Bdx winery formats is unrealistic, but still it shouldn't be any worse than just adding and then neglecting to use certain fields.. Not sure how to make the "cases" more accessible, but I've put a query with the conversion template folks, so we'll see. MURGH disc. 21:20, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
OK, since some time has passed with no further comment, I'll just implement this. MURGH disc. 10:14, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
