[edit] Feature suggestion
It would be great if we could get a geographical coordinates link for this template, a la Template:Coor, e.g. . —Tokek 23:21, 20 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Broken?
This template appears to be broken. —wwoods 00:44, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was just taking a look at it too. I haven't really dealt with templates before today, but this one seems to be messed up. I came across it on the Karakuwa, Miyagi page. It takes up more than half the width of the page. Templates don't look too complex, I'll try to fix this one this weekend. Drcwright 22:20, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fixed. (but now some content questions).
Ok, I fixed up the template, but deleted some things like "Population Magnitude" and "Other City Symbol". Also, "District" is empty on most city pages. Should District remain in the infobox? "MapImage" and "District" need to be added to every article's Infobox. Drcwright 04:29, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] SymbolImage
Could someone please make it behave a little better when SymbolImage is missing? Thanks! Shinobu 23:34, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Too wide?
Don't you think 25em is a bit excessive? Just asking. Shinobu 04:57, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image skyline
Could someone make it possible to have a picture of the skyline instead of the map?--Sefringle 21:29, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
I think that a map is more beneficial to English speakers, who most likely do not live in Japan. Perhaps an optional skyline picture could be added. BilabialBoxing 04:35, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Google Earth doesn't like this infobox's coords?
I spent a lot of time updating the Ikata, Ehime and other Ehime Prefecture articles in anticipation of their inclusion in the Wikipedia layer in Google Earth. Now that Google's finally updated the layer, I find that Ikata and Matsuyama are the only ones not listed; they're also the only ones that have their coordinates listed in this infobox. Can anything be done about this? Amake 06:12, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- According to this page, this infobox can be made Google Earth-compatible by making sure the coordinate info is labeled with the keyword "coordinates" or "coords" (example). It looks like this one is "coord" instead of "coords". I don't want to break anything, so does someone with experience want to adjust it? Amake 07:54, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

- I just replaced all instances of "coord" with "coords". I can't imagine it being any more complicated than that. But really...I have no idea. BilabialBoxing 04:41, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

- I guess we'll know in a few months! Thanks :) Amake 06:57, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A few requests/questions
First, I think the website link should be standardized. Personally, considering not all municipalities have English language websites, I would go for having the the Japanese site as the listed city website and have a place to enter in the English site address if applicable. Do you think it would be possible to have a line under the website link that says "in English", "(English)", "en", or something along those lines that is only there when an English website is entered?
Also, I think we can do without the "SymbolDescription" parameter (or whatever it's called) because for every time it only has to day say "Symbol of (Name) (City/Town/Village)" or simply "Symbol" (since other city pages just say "Flag", "Seal", or other one-word captions (see Brussels or even Zürich, where there is no caption at all).

[edit] }}
I've added hCard microformat mark up and used coord, but seem to have left a start pair of "}}". Can anyone see where they come from, please? Andy Mabbett 16:11, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "Place" City City Hall
Because this infobox is used for cities, towns, and villages, I have removed "city" from "city hall". Names should be entered as "Place" City/Town/Village as opposed to just "Place". This way, these will come up as "Place City Hall", "Place Town Hall", etc. instead of "Place City City Hall", etc.. -Nameneko 21:30, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Extra closing span
There is an extra closing span tag at the end of the infobox table. Is that done because some articles have an opening span before the infobox? I checked a few random Japanese city articles and they do not have anything like that. If some still do, maybe they should close their own spans, so the template can be nice and clean? [edit] Address
I propose getting rid of the postal code variable which puts the postal code at the top of the address with the little post office symbol next to it. According to the Japanese address article, the recommended (by Japan Post) way of writing a Japanese address in English is with the postal code at the end, no symbol. So, why don't we just add it in at the end of the address in the address variable? I'd change it myself, but I'm not totally confident in my ability to speak Templatese. [edit] Coord/Coords problem
Earlier this year, 'coord' was changed to 'coords' in this template (See discussion above). This change broke all usage of coord=(..), because the template now expects the input 'coords =', not 'coord ='. In some articles this has been changed, but I think there are still hundreds of articles in which this is not changed. This means that in those articles the coordinates do not show, even if they are entered into the template. I think the best way to fix this is to make the change complete by replacing 'coord =' by 'coords =' in the affected articles (it seems to be hundreds). I can do this relatively easily using AutoWikiBrowser. I'm going to wait a few days before going ahead with this to give people a chance to comment. Arthena(talk) 17:59, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Template:Japanese town
Is Template:Japanese town obsolete? It's only used in a few articles. Arthena(talk) 10:59, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- It should be. I'd use {{Infobox Settlement}} for towns in Japan. —MJCdetroit (yak) 18:35, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- I put in up for deletion at TfD. —MJCdetroit (yak) 19:20, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- AFAIK there are no Japanese town articles that use {{Infobox Settlement}}, while many use {{Infobox City Japan}}. I think the distinction is unnecessary anyway, as the template is worded to work for cities, towns, and villages. -Amake (talk) 02:12, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Auto density conversion
I've automated the density conversion so that if density is not specified it will be calculated from the population and area. Jɪmp 17:39, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
