[edit] Optional fields

Optional fields: image, deathdate, deathplace, networth, website.

[edit] Bugs

  1. The "deathdate" and "deathplace" fields do not work with templates such as {{ref|somereference}}. Shawnc 15:18, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
  2. It is not clear to me if I can put time of birth in birth_time also. Are these standard UTC times? —Preceding unsigned comment added by WilliamAquarius (talk • contribs) 01:43, January 22, 2007 (UTC)
There is no birth_time field, so specifying one will not change the resulting infobox. — Elembis (talk) 02:03, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] External links in template

External site links should be in the external links section of an article like with every other article.

(This template is used by these articles)

I've made a change, feel free to discuss if you think it should be changed back, however this seems to be pretty much the standard. --Mistress Selina Kyle 03:43, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

A website link in an infobox is pretty standard, where it makes sense. Look at Template:Infobox City, Template:Infobox School, Template:Infobox Company. Celebrities are their own companies, in a very real sense. -- Netoholic @ 07:23, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Net worth

Am I the only one a bit bemused by the and icons used in the net worth parameter of most celebrities' infoboxes? What is this compared against, and who is making sure it's accurate? I don't doubt that there may well be a fair explanation for this but it needs to be better documented if they are to be used. BigBlueFish 18:12, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Todays edits messed it up

A edit of today messed the template up and reverting to the old version of Ed Poor resolved the issue. There were three edits, and I do not know which one caused the problem, so I appologize for overwriting the other edits that did no harm. May I suggest to check a page that includes this template before moving on? -- Kim van der Linde at venus 03:15, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template modifications

The changes that were committed by me today are as follows:

  1. The [No. of Children] field was renamed to [Children]. The former field name limits the field value to a usually single-digit number that contributes little to the significance of the information provided by the infobox. The field name [Children] enables editors to include and link children of celebrities, if such people are notable for inclusion, and also allows for a number of children to be displayed. In addition, the [No. of Children] field name uses two lines, which breaks the flow of the infobox causing the reader to reevaluate the field name.
  2. The celebrity [Name] field was repositioned at the top of the template for two reasons: consistency with Infobox Company for which Infobox Celebrity was actually designed to complement, and for proper captioning of the table per HTML standards. [1]
  3. The [Salary] field was renamed from [Annual salary]. The adjective annual is extraneous and unnecessary; however, depending on the payment period per celebrity, the salary could be tagged as "(annual)", "(hourly)", etc., by breaking the line after the [Salary] value if necessary. I think most people assume "salary" to mean "annual payment", and I don't think there are many celebrities whose salaries aren't published as annual figures. The field name [Annual salary] also uses two lines, which breaks the flow of the infobox causing the read to reevaluate the field name.

Adraeus 22:01, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

According to Matthew Fenton, I also unknowingly broke the [bgcolour] variable. That issue has been resolved. Thanks, Matt! Adraeus 22:03, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image size

G'day. How do I reduce the size of the image to its normal size? The template seems to make all images the same size. The image at Ray Martin (television presenter) has been enlarged and is thus pixellated. Maybe we can have a pixels line in the table. Cheers and Happy Editing! Jpe|ob 03:45, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't know how, but it can be done. The problems are every other image using the template will be full size, and if you have a pixelated image of a person at 200px it's honestly a pretty crappy image that should be replaced with a better quality one. --TheTruthiness 05:00, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Call the "image_size" variable, default size is 220px. Example:
| image_size = 150px

[edit] Alias

Is there a way that someone could add the fields "Birth_name" and "Alias" to the Celebrity Infobox Template, as seen in other Infobox Templates such as "Infobox musical artist"? Thank you for your time, Smeelgova 20:44, 3 October 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Infobox cruft

Why is this template being used on historical persons like Benjamin Franklin. Why is this template needed instead of a common Infobox Person? Why is this infobox needed at all? —Centrxtalk • 20:45, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] name field necessary?

Given that the page name gives the individual's name, and then it is usually in the first line of the text in bold, is it really necessary to have a name field in the infobox also? The Gomm 23:48, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Age: Should it be used?

There is a template pertaining to age of the person. Template:Age is very useful. What are your thoughts on this?

[edit] Children

Some biographies name their children in this template (e.g., Brit Hume and Bill O'Reilly), while others (like Mary Sue Hubbard and John Edward) simply give the number of children the person has. I recommend that we standardize this in one of three ways:

  1. List the names of all children whose names are known (and avoid listing children with unknown names)
  2. List the names of all children who have their own articles (and avoid listing other children)
  3. Give the number of children, but leave names to the article itself

I prefer 1 and 3. Suggestions? — Elembis 16:49, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] documentation

Please transclude the documentation. In addition, please place <includeonly> tags around the code. --PhantomS 21:55, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Heh, figures the page I was checking to make sure I didn't fuss it up was itself bugged. ;) All done, although the doc page looks like it needs some work. Luna Santin 23:31, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Flags in the places of birth/death?

Is there consensus about placing flags in the fields for places of birth and death? There's a minor cycle of reversion going on in Steve Irwin, and I'd like to find out what people think about using them: not at all, at the front, before the country, or at the end? —C.Fred (talk) 14:01, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

There is no consensus, no, someone just added a flag to an article one day and it seems to have duplicated all over the Wiki like a swarm of locusts. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 14:10, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Birth date

How do we get rid of the year of birth thing? I'm trying to get rid of it entirely from one, but it won't let me. Even when all the birth date etc headers are removed, it still says "born" when saved. SlimVirgin (talk) 06:13, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Does anyone know how to get rid of this? There are BLP issues on some articles, where people don't want their date of birth to be posted. But because we can't remove "date of birth =" on the infobox, people keep adding it. SlimVirgin (talk) 07:08, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
It might be practical just to post the year of birth. Birth date being a required field is common among people infoboxes. --PhantomS 07:12, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] hCard microformat

Please add the hCard microformat (See WP:UF for background) by adding two HTML classes, thus:

  • class="infobox" => class="infobox vcard"
  • {{{name}}} => <span class="fn">{{{name}}}</span>

Once done, I'll update the documentation. Thank you. Andy Mabbett 16:06, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Y Done --ais523 16:44, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. I've updated the doc, too. Andy Mabbett 16:59, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Please also add class="role" to "occupation" and class="note" to "footnotes". Thank you. Andy Mabbett 18:57, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Edits made. Not being particularly familiar with the template or the class, is all the inline style information for the footnotes section now redundant? EVula // talk // // 22:07, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, and no; the class "note" has no styles applied to it, it's purely for labelling data. Andy Mabbett 22:40, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Alrighty; that's what I thought, but wanted to at least raise the question in case I was wrong and we could trim a bit of code. EVula // talk // // 23:22, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox code for WikiMedia 1.10?

I'm trying to get the Infobox template to get to work in my personal wiki, created with WikiMedia, but I can's find the extension php-script and demanded edits for LocalSettings.php. Can anyone tell me where to find those? All I can come up with is the use of the template inside WikiPedia, but that doesn't work with WikiMedia 1.10.--Bjrndlw 11:12, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wrong Grammer in Death date and age

There is wrong grammer used in the death date and age of this template. It displays as "aged #" after the date. Shouldn't it be "age #"? INFORMATION CENTER© (TC) 05:38, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Add "known for" field

There's a dispute as to whether what a person does, and is known for, is necessarily an occupation. Perhaps not, but if "known for" were added, it would resolve the problem, even if this isn't merged with {{Infobox Person}}. — Arthur Rubin | (talk) 23:29, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Alternative text for images

{{editprotected}} Please make this change. This reuses the caption as the alternative text for the image. This will allow this template comply with Wikipedia:Alternative text for images -- Thanks, Patleahy 04:36, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Name line

The "Name" of the subject is listed above and outside the infobox. Can that be moved into the infobox to be more consistent with other infoboxes such as Template:Infobox Biography, Template:Infobox actor, Template:Infobox company (upon which this is supposed to be based)? I find it disconcerting to have the name floating above the box. ZueJay (talk) 14:47, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
