Template:Infobox DTV/doc
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
{{Infobox DTV}} is a specialised infobox for use solely on articles on the 1800 US full-power television stations affected by the 2009 US DTV transition. For non-US broadcasters, low-power stations and broadcasters which will not be shutting down an existing analogue operation during this timeframe, use {{Infobox Broadcast}}.
This template contains fields (analog, digital_temporary, erp_temporary) with information on existing US television facilities which will shut down when the digital switchover is complete. These fields will be removed from this template on February 17, 2009, effectively removing the obsolete information from display in all affected articles.

[edit] Usage
Parameters with * are required fields. Link people if they have articles.
Fields affected by the US DTV transition are:
Parameter | Explanation |
---|---|
analog * | Indicate the analog channel number of the station's primary analog transmitter, and whether it is in the VHF or UHF spectrum. This field will be removed at the end of the digital switchover. |
digital * | Indicate the channel number of the station's primary digital transmitter, if applicable, and whether it is in the VHF or UHF spectrum. This information will be displayed as simply "Digital:" if no US temporary channel exists (see below) |
digital_temporary | Indicate the channel number and power of a US station's digital transmitter during DTV transition, if different from the station's permanent digital channel assignments. US DTV operations currently outside the channel 2-36 and 38-51 range will be forced to move in 2009. See fcc.gov, w9wi.com or other sources for lists of affected stations. If present, this is currently displayed instead of "Digital:" (above). This field will be removed after US DTV transition is complete. |
subchannels | List any digital subchannels, separating each line with <br/>, with the network affiliation(s) for each. Do not list temporary or special-event networks; do not duplicate information already listed elsewhere. |
affiliations | For use if networks carried are not all already listed on individual subchannels (above). Identifies which network(s) the station is associated with and which contribute regular programming. Use "Independent" if the station does not belong to any regular broadcast network. |
erp_temporary | The current effective radiated power of the station's primary analog and digital transmitters in kilowatts, or watts if below 1 kW. If present, this field will display instead of effective_radiated_power. This field will be deleted upon completion of the US DTV transition. |
effective_radiated_power | The final effective radiated power of the station's primary digital transmitter in kilowatts, or watts if below 1 kW. For stations returning to VHF channels after DTV transition, this may be significantly less than the current digital power levels. It is best to use the FCC lookup {{TVQ}} to find construction permits for DT transmitters on existing analogue channels. |
The operation of the remaining fields matches {{Infobox Broadcast}}:
Parameter | Explanation |
---|---|
call_letters * | The call letters of the station, as assigned by the appropriate national broadcast authority. |
station_logo | An image of the station's logo. Should be resized to a width of 250 pixels or less. |
location * | The name of the municipality in which the station's programming originates. That is, the primary studio and office location. This is opposed to the transmitter location which may be in a different community, and also opposed to regional "satellite" studios or facilities. |
city | The municipality designated by the station's licence, where this differs from location. |
station_branding | The wording the station normally uses on-air and in advertising to identify itself, as opposed to the actual call letters. |
station_slogan | The station's slogan phrase(s), used for promotion and programming description rather than for station identification (distinguished from station_branding). |
other_chs | Indicate channel numbers of the station's secondary transmitters, if applicable. Analog and digital transmitters should be identified as appropriate. |
owner * | The company which owns the station. |
licensee | Identify which company or entity holds the station licence, if different from owner. |
founded | The date on which the station corporate activities began, which will be prior to airdate. If the station has had multiple owners in its history, this would be a point-form chronology (see Example below). |
airdate | The date on which regular broadcasts began. |
callsign_meaning | The meaning behind the callsign letters, if available. |
sister_stations | Identify any very closely-related stations e.g. twin stations with similar programming and ownership, but separately licenced. |
former_callsigns | List any previous callsigns the station had during its history. |
former_channel_numbers | List any previous channel numbers the station had during its history. |
former_affiliations | List any previous affiliations (networks) the station had during its history. |
former_locations | List any previous locations the station had during its history. |
HAAT | Indicate the height above average terrain (HAAT) in metres first, followed by a conversion to feet. For example: {{convert|210|m|ft|0|abbr=on}} → 210 m (689 ft) - see {{convert}} |
class | Indicate the class of the primary broadcast transmitter, as applicable to the broadcast standards of the station's country. |
facility_id | The facility ID which a national regulatory identifies the broadcast station (generally used by FCC in the United States). |
coordinates | Indicate the geographic coordinates of the station's primary transmitter. See the documentation of {{coor dm}} or {{coor dms}} templates. |
homepage | The station's official website. Type in a wikified URL e.g. [http://www.thebostonchannel.com/ www.thebostonchannel.com] |
telephone | Primary telephone number of the station's business office. |
