Infomed is the National Health Care Telecommunications Network of Cuba. It's one of the largest networks in the country. Besides the network, Infomed takes care of maintain a web portal, the health virtual library (BVS by its Spanish abbreviation) and other important services.
Infomed have been declared a World Health Collaborating Center for the Virtual Health Library development. Infomed works with BIREME for this purpose.
Infomed received the Stockholm Challenge Award in 2002 because it improved health using a nationwide and international connected information and knowledge network.
The Journal of Medical Internet Research has published on January 27, 2006 a case study about Infomed. The study concluded that "INFOMED is a model of interest for integrating health care information, research, education, and services".
