Infernal is a Danish dance group, which made their national debut in 1997 with the release of the "Sorti de L'enfer" single. Besides Aqua, they are currently the biggest and most famous Danish band in the world.
Initially they were known for their experimental song style and blend of unusual music genres and club music. In recent years they have turned to more songwriting and they have gone from club to dance pop. Their most successful single was "From Paris to Berlin," a version of which was released in the UK as "From London to Berlin", promoting England's place in the 2006 Football World Cup in addition to the original single.

[edit] 1997-2004: Danish Success
Infernal initially consisted of Lina Rafn, Paw Lagermann and Søren Haahr, but Søren left the group in 2000. They developed an experimental song style and successful blend of unusual music genres and club music. An example of this is their smashhit "Kalinka" which is founded on the Russian Drobushki folk melody. From 1998 to 2004, the band released four albums on the Danish market (three studio albums with one of them being a re-issue and one remix/live compilation), with all of them spanning Top 10 and Top 5 hits like Sunrise, Muzaik, Kiss The Sky, Kalinka and You Receive Me. It wasn't until 2004, with the release of From Paris To Berlin that they gained worldwide recognition and fame.
[edit] From Paris to Berlin
In 2004, their third studio album From Paris to Berlin was released, the title track of which has become their biggest international hit so far, becoming a chart hit all over the world. "From Paris to Berlin" is the only song released by a Danish act nominated at the Nordic Music Awards 2005 giving Infernal yet another triumph. The Nordic Music Awards is the biggest music event in Scandinavia broadcast to viewers in Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway. Nominations are based on sales figures in all four countries; however, the audience and the viewers are the ones to determine who will take home the prestigious statuettes. Ahead of the World Cup 2006, "From Paris to Berlin" has been re-recorded for English fans with lyrics celebrating the English football squad with the title "From London to Berlin". However, the song was withdrawn from radio airplay and TV following England's knockout from the World Cup. In May 2006, From Paris to Berlin reached #2 in the UK charts and remained in the top five for seven weeks.
The following single after "From Paris to Berlin" in the UK was "Self Control", a cover of a 1984 song by Italian pop singer Raf also covered by Laura Branigan the same year. The single wasn't released in Spain, due to a similar version being released by Spanish singer Soraya Arnelas. Instead, they released Ten Miles, which topped the single charts in November. Self Control was released on November 6th 2006 and peaked at number 18 in the UK and number 14 in Ireland.
"I Won't Be Crying" was chosen as the third single in Europe but later failed to built momentum and gain significant airplay in the UK. It still went on to become a moderate hit in Europe and became the band's most watched video on YouTube, passing 1,200,000 views. On May 28, 2007, the band released a new version of their From Paris To Berlin album, this time in Europe and Asia. The new album contained two new songs and a bonus DVD on the Japanese edition. Counting sales of both first and second versions, From Paris To Berlin has sold more than one million copies worldwide.[1]
Afterwards, Ten Miles, a slow, melodic ballad was released worldwide. The song became an unexpected hit for the duo, surpassing the peak of I Won't Be Crying in Europe and reaching Top 5 in Poland.
Not yet well-known in the United States of America, Infernal is starting to break out of its shell and is slowly becoming more successful outside Europe, with the album being added in the American and Canadian Itunes and receiving great reviews.[2].
[edit] 2008: Electric Cabaret
The band has announced their new album, entitled "Electric Cabaret" will be released worldwide on August 11, 2008.[3]. The first single, called Downtown Boys will have its worldwide premiere at Boogie Prisen, a Danish award show. The single was released on April 14 to Danish radio stations and Itunes and has so far peaked at number #3 on the Danish Singles Chart, which was the peak of Self Control and I Won't Be Crying.[4]
