Talk:Indian Naval Air Arm

Lacks a "historical aircraft" section. Raoulduke47 17:12, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Added a history section
Sourced a lot of articles on Bharat Rakshak and the Indian Naval Museum sites to put together a history section. Feel free to expand on this starting point though. Marathi_Mulgaa (talk) 02:36, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Added a picture and turned list into prose. Please post your opinions here to make it easier for other editors to know what you have done and why. Thanks!!!! Marathi_Mulgaa (talk) 03:46, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Deleted "Expand" banner
I think this page has critical mass as a standalone piece. Marathi_Mulgaa (talk) 09:16, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] This page needs a choppers section
I'll get one started. Do pitch in if possible. Marathi_Mulgaa (talk) 01:29, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Needs a Aircraft Carrier section
Please help flesh out the passage on the INS Viraat. Links to other secondary sources (like Bharat-Rakshak)would help here. Thanks much!!! Marathi_Mulgaa (talk) 08:17, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Is this an article on IN aircraft, or the IN naval air arm? Genrally, aircraft carriers are covered in ship articles, or articles on a given navy's carriers, not on pages about their aircraft. If you rename and expand this page to cover the naval air arm (I don't know if this is a formal branch within the IN, or if it has a formal name) as a whole, then what you have here represents a good basis for such a page. This page could also be split into an article that covers the naval air arm organization and history, but leaving the specifics of aircraft types here. I looked at the Ships of the Indian Navy and List of ships of the Indian Navy pages, and both are basically lists. The latter article is a straight list, while the former breaks then up by classes. Perhaps it would be worth condsidering combing those to pages at List of ships of the Indian Navy, and converting the Ships of the Indian Navy page to a prose dicussion of each class and type, including the carriers.
- Finally, I notice the current sections on the carriers have no citations whatsoever. This needs to be rectified, or you risk the sections being removed. In addition, but careful not to completly duplicate the actual ship article's info, as thi\ese typs of pages are just summaries. The same goes for the aircraft sections, as some of the specific details should be moved to the aircraft pages, if the info isn't there already, provide you have your sources cited. It's alot easier to add the citations as you put info in the article, trather than to have to go back and do it later. Please be aware that you can't just say the sources are in the linked articles, but any specific info or calme needs direct citations.
- Thanks, and don't let my comments discourage you in any way. You obviously have a deep interest in the subject matter, and you have put in alot of time already to improve the article. I'm just trying to guide you on areas that need improving, especially while your sources should still be fresh in your mind. I will try to do some general editing to bring the article closer to Wikipedia MOS standards in the next few days. - BillCJ (talk) 09:09, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Need a section on ground-based Naval Air Stations, Notable Personnel
If we're going to expand the scope of this article to encompass the entire Naval Air Arm, we need to start talking about the Naval Air stations and notable personnel. I'll kick this off. Feel free to flesh it out some more.

[edit] Please discuss changes here before making them.
Hi guys. Noticing a lot of random changes. Please discuss these with editors here before making them.
On the reinsertion of the Tejas image -
Acc to the notes attached to this image, "The image is downloaded from Aeronautical Development Agency, ministry of defence, Government of India. *The Right to Information Act allows all Indian civilians access to works published by the Indian government and can be used under the fai".
I'm an Indian national, and as such I'd think I have the right to use this image when I'm writing a passage specifically on the Tejas.
On the reinsertion of the Dhruv image - All the Dhruv images in Wikimedia Commons are up for deletion except for this image. Even if it is being used by the Sarang team, it is still a Dhruv, so I don't think it's *REALLY* a big problem. Hope you agree.

- Fair use images need a fair use rationale for each time they are used, the Tejas image has no rationale. Also the Tejas image should only be used on the subject article which is HAL Tejas and not this article. But I have assumed good faith so it will not be deleted for seven days or until a fair use rationale is created that meets the criteria. MilborneOne (talk) 11:42, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Extending Scope of Article to Encompass Naval Air Arm
Team - I'm reposting this because we really need to get moving on it. Need the new sections to be added soon. Any help mucho appreciated! Marathi_Mulgaa (talk) 14:47, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your encouraging comments, Bill. I couldn't agree with you more on all counts.
It's quite a coincidence that I was just chatting with User:Chanakyathegreat yesterday about exactly what you propose - Extending the scope of this article to be about the entire Indian Naval Air Arm. We both agree that this would be a way more educational article than one just about the aircraft inventory. Subject matter that we could add include (but are by no means limited to):
- Wars where the Naval Air Arm saw action
- Notable personnel
- Naval Air Stations
I would like to know if other editors agree.
The sections on the choppers and carriers are new and all material currently in there is a place-holder. I just wanted to get these sections going. There's no denying that they definitely need work - I'm on it. Any help from other editors (and all help so far) mucho appreciated.
All your editing help is welcome and appreciated, Bill! Adios!
