For the past couple of decades, Finns have mistaken their Independence Day for a Winter War memorial day. The 20 years of independence we had before the war broke out have been forgotten. — JIP | Talk 12:28, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Helsinki and Ilkka Remes

There are Independece Day festivities all over Finland, not just in Helsinki. The article as it stands doesn't seem to really capture this. Also, is that Ilkka Remes mention really necessary? [edit] The Jäger Myth and Capital I

What the heck? Someone reverted my edit of the word 'itsenäisyyspäivä' back to 'Itsenäisyyspäivä'. Why is this? In Finnish, names of holidays are not capitalized. Also, the legend about two candles set for jägers passing in secrecy is more or less just that - a legend. It can't be verified by noteworthy sources. The style of writing is quite clearly what I'd call "Finglish"--this becomes clearer as one progresses down the page. The paragraph(s) abou the President's Ball should be in its own section. I will try and do this later, but feel free to do this faster. --Hansh 00:13, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
