Industry was a pop music band formed in New York which spawned only three albums; Stranger to Stranger (1984) being the most popular. [1]
Industry was founded in the late 1970s by Brian Unger and Mercury Caronia. They released 2 EPs on Mannequin Records in the early 80s with rather experimental electronic music. After the addition of new lead singer Jon Carin and Rudy Perrone (who was previously in a progressive rock band called Cathedral,) they created a more pop-oriented sound and released a Mini-LP and an album.
Their best known single, the anti-militarist "State of the Nation", broke through the European charts between 1983 and 1984, earning them a place as support for acts like Billy Idol, Talk Talk and INXS.
"State of the Nation" was followed less successfully by a second single from the same album, "Still of the Night".
After the group split, Carin started a successful session-man career, becoming a permanent member of the Pink Floyd live band and co-writing Pink Floyd's hit single "Learning to Fly". Unger and Perrone went on to form their own bands.
