Indonesian fiber optic lines

The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information (Departemen Telekomunikasi dan Informasi) controls all telecommunications through its carrier (a joint stock company)

At this time, the existing fiber optic in Indonesia, for the internet access or even for the telephone connection, have been developed by PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) as an Indonesia's largest domestic telecommunications carrier, PT. Indonesian Satellite Corporation Tbk (Indosat), PT Excelcomindo Pratama Tbk (Excelcom), and PT Comnet Plus. It’s long are about 15.000 kilometers from 35.000 kilometer minimum lines to connecting Indonesian broadband telecommunication lines

Mostly Indonesia fiber optic gateway across the undersea, call as South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 3 (SMW3).

In March 2007, the government of Indonesia has already made an open tender project ‘The Palapa Ring’. This project meant to develop fiber optic lines all across Indonesian territories, it cost US$ 1,51 million, so through this project 33 province and 440 city in Indonesia can access internet services faster and with high capacity. As the plan, the project will start in 2008 and will operate in 2011.(erichson sihotang)
