Individual sport

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An individual sport refers to a sport which is practiced by two opposing individuals or one individual.

Despite the antisocial/solitary appearance of individual sports,[citation needed] they can still be competitive. For example, such athletes can compete against their own best efforts, without the risks of unhealthy rivalries[citation needed] which are more likely to be cultivated in a team environment.[citation needed]

Many are or have been dismissed as "not really a sport" by casual observers. Golf, skateboarding, and bowling stand out as examples of this, perhaps more due to their visibility and popularity than any other factor.[citation needed]
