An indirect ophthalmoscope is an instrument designed to view the retina of the eye.
It consists of a head-mounted lightsource, and a powerful lens (+20 Dioptres usually) held in the hand.
The patient is positioned so that the patient's eye, the lens and the observer's eye are in a straight line. The instrument is used to diagnose various retinal pathologies like retinal detachment etc, and also to treat them.
