The Indiana State Sycamores basketball team is the NCAA Division I men's basketball program of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. They currently compete in the Missouri Valley Conference. The team last played in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in 2001. The Sycamore's greatest season ever was 1978-79, when star Larry Bird led an undefeated team to an unexpected national title game versus a Magic Johnson-led Michigan State team, and ending the season in second place with a record of 33-1. The Sycamores also finished as the National Runner-Up in the College Division (now Div II) in 1968 and won the NAIA National Title in 1950, with NAIA Finals Appearances in 1946 and 1948. The Indiana State Sycamores men's basketball team plays their home games at Hulman Center (10,200), and are currently coached by Kevin McKenna.
