Indiana Derby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Indiana Derby is Anderson, Indiana's Hoosier Park's signature event and its highest paying thoroughbred horse race.
A Grade II event in its 14th running in 2008, the Derby is for three-year-olds of either gender set at a distance of 8 and one half furlongs on the dirt. (One and one sixteenth of a mile.) It offers a purse of $500,000.
Hoosier Park was inaugurated on September 1, 1995 and is also used for standardbred races with harness racing from April to August.
The dead heat in the 2006 running is the first dead heat for the Indiana Derby. The result was contested by the owners of Star Dabbler who came out of the race injured. They believed he won the race so took the issue to arbitration but the result was upheld.
