Indian River Bay

Indian River Bay is a body of water in Sussex County, Delaware. The bay is connected to the south, to the larger Assawoman Bay in Maryland, via a channel known as the Ditch. It is connected on the northern end to the Indian River Bay, via the Assawoman Canal.

Due to pollution, agricultural run-off, and its location (miles from the closest inlet), among other things. The bay is one of the worst polluted in the state. To date only two proposed solutions have been looked into. The first requires cutting an inlet through Delaware Seashore State Park, which would involve building a bridge, and jetty. The other is the dredging and widening the Assawoman Canal. To improve the flow of tidal water from and to the Indian River bay, and inlet.
