[edit] Logo

The Symbol consists of a circle in four segments. The concept is visual and not dependent on letters of the alphabet. Instead, three segments, in blue, form three quarters of a circle, while three elements move out of the space, which would have been occupied by the fourth segment. The circular form in the centre suggests the institution, while the incoming white space shapes the three moving elements. These elements indicate a freedom from all constraints, and form a separate entity, devoted to a specific purpose, in this case, management. These pieces have been put together because management is multi-dimensional and has to move together to form an organic whole.

Here the slogan 'Siddhi Mulam Prabandhanam' appears below the symbol, further clarifying the meaning behind the symbol.

[edit] Admissions

The admissions to IIM Indore take place through the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs. The Common Admission Test conducted by the IIMs is a very competitive test conducted for admission to the numerous graduate programs in Management at the six campuses, and is usually considered one of the most competitive exams in the world, with a success rate of less than one in a hundred. Each institute conducts independent group discussions and personal interviews to evaluate the students shortlisted after the test. 150,000 students compete for around 1600 seats in the IIM's which makes it even more selective than all the Ivy League Universities put together. Even with a top 1% score, a candidate must also successfully clear the stringent group and individual interviews. The overall acceptance rate for IIM Indore is around 0.3 to 0.4% of the applicants (compared with the acceptance rate of around 5-10% in the US ivy league universities). The noteworthy feature of IIM Indore is that it has an excellent placement record, inspite of having the highest percentage of freshers amongst all IIMs.

[edit] Programmes

The Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) offers a Post Graduate Degree in General Management (PGDM) which is equal to an MBA. There are options to specialise in various fields such as Finance, Operations, Marketing, Systems, etc. The students are allowed complete flexibility in choosing any course/subject of their choice from the second year onwards (similar to what happens in all the other IIMs). The Programs offered by the institute are as follows:

The variety of students in the Institute is extremely varied with educational background such as IITs, Medicine, Engineering, Humanities, Media etc.

[edit] Foreign Student Exchange Program

The International Student Exchange program ensures that the students are exposed to the latest trends in management across the best business schools in the world. The institute had its first student exchange of six students with Ecole de Management de Lyon (EM Lyon) a premier business school based in Lyon, France in 2005. The exchange program has advanced rapidly and the institute currently has exchange programs with two business schools in France, one in China and one in New Zealand with several others on the anvil.

[edit] Faculty

As is the case with any premier academic institute, the faculty of IIM Indore forms the foundation of the institute.IIM Indore boasts of an eminent faculty team from the academic and professional fields. Comprising entirely of PhDs, the faculty is a unique blend of the young and the experienced. Apart from full-time faculty , visiting faculty from many prestigious management institutes all over the country as well as from the industry visit our institute and impart knowledge to the participants.

The Institute also organizes series of seminars and lectures where eminent speakers share their experiences with the IIMI Community.

[edit] Student Activities

The activities of the students are coordinated by the Students Welfare Activities Council (SWAC), an elected body of student representatives. Subcommittees look after various aspects such as academics, sports, infrastructure, etc.

First held in 2000, the annual management festival, "IRIS", provides an opportunity for business students to unite, compete, and to exchange ideas.

The institute also conducts UtsAha! – a marketing fair that aims to bridge the gap between a marketer's plans and consumer's mind to provide solutions to marketers across different industries. UtsAha! also has all the quintessential elements of a marketing fair – stage shows, shopping stalls, a food court, and interactive games.

The exclusive annual quizzing event Nihilanth for IITs and IIMs has its roots in IIM Indore that hosted the inaugural edition in 2003.It is the only event that has participation from the two pillars of Indian Academia, the IITs and IIMs.

The SWAC also publishes the I - Mag, which has the distinction of being the only Business magazine being published by any business school in the country.

There are many clubs in IIMI, the notable among them being the Quiz Club, Mercur-I (the marketing club), Currenc-I (the economics & international business club), Equit-I (the finance club), the Entrepreneurship and Consulting Club, Infinit-I (the IT & Systems Club) and Operand-I (the operations club). Other interest groups include adventure, photography, movies, etc.

Students have access to a recreational and sports infrastructure. Regular tournaments are held throughout the year, giving students a chance to compete among themselves. Apart from these regular tournaments, the institute has its own annual sports week, "Ranbhoomi". Multiple prizes are offered.

[edit] Social Initiatives

"There is so much that we have been blessed with. And there are so many ones who haven't been as lucky as us. The least we can do is share some of our good fortune with them. And in the process, there is so much we can learn from others' experiences."

This is the spirit with which a group of PGP participants have started an initiative - a social service club - with a vision to make a real difference to as many lives as they touch through the time spent.

This initiative is over and above the Society and Business Management course that is compulsory for all second-year participants. The activities under the social club are not part of any curriculum of the institute and are carried out by the sheer determination and enthusiasm of the group of students. Having come into existence barely a month back, the club is yet to be formalized in terms of the role played by the Institute and the faculty members.

However, the fact that formalization is yet to be done, and that support from other sources is still to be obtained, has not in any way deterred the spirit of these young people. Already, they have taken up social work in a village behind the new campus at Rau, where they spend time in teaching children. Keeping in with this initiative, cultural events were organized on the occasion of Janmashtami, for these children in the Rau campus which culminated in a dinner at our Hostel Mess.

In another such initiative, another group of students analyzed the needs of a small village called Tellore near Indore and addressed the villagers there on the benefits of cooking gas. The group leader Deepak Aggarwal expressed great satisfaction with the response and described the experience as highly motivating. He felt that the sheer feeling of being able to contribute something towards the progress of our country which has nourished us all as ample rewards to the initiative. Further projects on curbing "Deforestation", watershed management and helping Self Help Groups (SHGs) are on the anvil.

This is only the start of a movement - and minds are being put together to work out strategies and programs to further this cause. Over time, the efforts of these participants will surely be rewarded - through improved living standards and economic status of these villagers and others, which is all that they seek at present. IIMI community wishes these participants good luck in their noble venture.

[edit] Indore Climate

Due to its location in Central India, far from the sea, Indore has a moderately extreme climate. Winter : In winter (Nov-Feb), the night low is around 10 degree C. At the peak of winter, it can be as low as 2 to 3 degree C. Summer : (Apr-Jun) the days are hot with the peak summer(May) day temperature sometimes touching 45 degree C. However unlike other places in Central India , the summer nights in Indore are special.
