Independiente Records
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Independiente Records is a record label formed in 1997 after Andy MacDonald had sold Go! Discs Records to PolyGram in 1996 for a reported £30Million. The label is distributed by Sony Records for Travis & Vital PIAS for their other artists in the UK and by Epic Records in the US (Travis only).
Groups like Embrace, Travis, White Rose Movement, David Ford, Sun House, The Shortwave Set, Gomez, Firstborn and Howling Bells are currently on the label. The label has seen a considerable amount of success in the late 90's early 00's with Travis's album "The Man Who" being cited as the 25th biggest selling album in the UK[1], and their follow up "The Invisible Band" in 2001, and in 2004 with Embrace's comeback album "Out Of Nothing". More recently, the label had moderate success with Embrace's World at Your Feet being chosen as the official England FIFA World Cup song for the 2006 tournament, although it wasn't well received with football fans or the media.
