The Independencia Municipality is one of the 21 municipalities (municipios) that makes up the eastern Venezuelan state of Anzoátegui and, according to a 2007 population estimate by the National Institute of Statistics of Venezuela, the municipality has a population of 31,399.[1] The town of Soledad is the shire town of the Independencia Municipality.[2]

The Independencia Municipality, according to a 2007 population estimate by the National Institute of Statistics of Venezuela, has a population of 31,399 (up from 28,287 in 2000). This amounts to 2.1% of the state's population.[3] The municipality's population density is 8.5 people per square mile (5.3/km²).[4]

The mayor of the Independencia Municipality is Humberto Bello, elected on October 31, 2004 with 33% of the vote.[5] He replaced Anibal Hernandez shortly after the elections.[6] The municipality is divided into two parishes; Capital Independencia and Mamo.[7]
