Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County is a faux documentary that was shown on the UPN network in 1998. Directed by Dean Alioto, the film portrays a family named the McPhersons being abducted by extra-terrestrials. It is a recreation of The McPherson Tape, a home video that was claimed to depict an alien abduction. The fact that it is a recreation of another tape has led to confusion over which was the original tape. The entire incident was filmed on a home video camera to appear as though it was a film of actual events.
Some evidence that this program (shown on the UPN network) was a production:
- All characters have actors credited in playing them.
- Said actors have rather extensive resumes of their acting work.
- In the scenes where the McPherson boys are running from aliens, the camera is tracking smoothly along the ground.
- On two occasions, the camcorder's clock shows a full minute elapse even when there have been edits in the scene, which would have caused an actual time counter to skip ahead.
- The light ball that flies around the house casts no shadows, and appears identical to the lens flare filter used by some digital editing programs.
- At the end of the film, you are given a "555" number to call if you have seen the family.
- Director Dean Alioto has himself stated that the film was a staged production. [1]
