[edit] Episode recap
Naomi gets angry when Coop hires a stripper for Sam. Pete doesn't score any points when he treats the stripper's medical problem. The Oceanside doctors join forces with Dr. King at the hospital to help a sick baby.
Addison and Violet are wondering what the surprise is for Sam that Coop and Pete are in on. Coop worries when he finds out that Naomi is on her way over. Everyone runs to the window to watch Sam's surprise, Ginger the stripper, knock on his door. Instead of enjoying the stripper, Sam examines what looks to be like a rash on her rear end. Only a doctor.
At the staff meeting, Naomi ignores Sam after finding out that Ginger the stripper visited him. It also seems that Addison is mad at Pete for getting involved in the hiring of the stripper. He blames it on Coop, though. The doctors head back to work and Coop checks out a baby who has been having medical problems since birth. Naomi quizzes Sam about the stripper, who lets her know he did not sleep with her.
Sam makes a house call to his patient, Dave, and finds him unconscious on the floor. Addison teams up with Coop to help the sick baby, Emily. Sam goes to the hospital to check on Dave and finds out that Charlotte released him. After looking at the test results, Addison sees that the parents didn't pass on the mutation to Emily because they are not her parents. Sam heads back to Dave's house to check on him but is told that everything is just fine.
Ginger shows up at the clinic and the women stare out the window while the men greet her with hugs. Pete takes Ginger into his office, which gets Addison steamed. Charlotte goes to Naomi and Addison with some information regarding baby Emily and her parents. Violet sits down Emily's parents to tell them that it's possible their daughter was switched at birth and according to California law, they'll have to give her to her rightful parents and take their biological daughter home. They, of course, don't want to believe that.
Addison goes looking for the stripper in Pete's office and goes off on him for having her around. Charlotte brings Addison all the paperwork regarding Emily but she can't find anything that supports she was switched at birth. Dave's son is brought to the clinic by his grandmother, feeling worse than his father. Naomi brings in the parents of the other baby to let them know that they are really Emily's parents and they, understandably, freak out. The father wants the money back he paid the clinic to get him and his wife pregnant. The mother tells Violet she will not give up her baby, Sarah.
Sam figures out that Dave and his son are being poisoned by his mother. Addison and Naomi try to top that by telling him they're dealing with babies switched at birth. Another case is solved when Addison realizes one of the parents switched the babies. Sam confronts Dave's mother about poisoning her son, which she did to teach him a lesson for being an alcoholic, not intending to kill him.
Addison calls out Sarah's father for knowing that Emily was sick and switched the babies' records. The police come to arrest him as the wife sits in disbelief. Violet tries to figure out why Coop is so emotionally involved with the patients today. Sam stages an intervention with Dave and his family. He tells Dave that he's developed an allergy to alcohol, instead of ratting out Dave's mom.
Violet sits with Sarah's mom, who is now Emily's mom. She will be raising this baby alone, without her husband. The mother breaks down, knowing that it's possible little Emily will die before she is five years old. The babies are switched as two mothers grieve the loss of a child, while gaining a new one. They give each other tips on how to take care of their new babies as tears stream down their faces. Coop steps in to support Sarah's biological father.
Violet goes to her office and stares at a bike that stirs up emotion in her. Pete and Addison relax after a long day. He tells her that he's not interested in a woman like Ginger, he wants a real woman. Before he leaves, he asks her who takes care of her, but she does not respond. Naomi tries to lecture Sam about dating a stripper. He promises they're not and also that the next woman he dates will be amazing. They come to an understanding and head home for the day. Coop comes to Violet's to find the bike in pieces and her crying about her lost love. They agree to run the bike over with her car. Naomi watches Sam alone in his apartment from Addison's but doesn't want to go over there. She'd rather look.[1]
