This article is about the Genesis song. For the song from Sum 41, see In Too Deep (Sum 41 song).

"In Too Deep" is the fourth track on the 1986 Genesis album Invisible Touch. It was released as the second single from the LP. A performance of the song was included on the 1992 live album The Shorts.

In a 2007 interview with the website Genesis- The Movement, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford remarked that In Too Deep may make its way onto the setlist for the North American leg of the Turn It On Again tour. It was not played on the European portion, but said this song may replace Ripples, as In Too Deep was a bigger hit in America than Europe and vice versa. Ultimately, however, the set list was not changed for the North American tour.

[edit] Charts

The song went to #3 in America and #19 in the UK. The B-side of the single was the instrumental "Do the Neurotic". It would be the band's final hit single until "No Son Of Mine in 1991.

[edit] Music video

The video for the song features the three band members playing on a minimalist set comprised of steps and platforms. Tony Banks plays a grand piano, although the recording itself is mainly electric, while Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins mime acoustic guitar and vocals respectively.

[edit] Kids Incorporated Version

A version of the song was covered on the kid oriented show, Kids Incorporated [1], with the lyrics changed to more of a friend's standpoint rather than a lover ("love" is replaced with "like"). Also, the singer (Rahsaan Patterson) is singing to another male pre-teen cast member (Richard Shoff).
