In Session (also known as Lisa Stansfield in Session or Lisa Stansfield - In Session) is a non-official album by British pop/soul singer Lisa Stansfield, produced and first released by Sovereign label, and distributed by Delta Music/Arvato Services, in 1993, and re-released in 1996, though including material recorded by Lisa before 1989.
It is in fact an unauthorized early best-of collection, the artist herself did not compile personally, most including previously unreleased songs, in demo form, dating back to the early Eighties, exactly, pre-1986, that is at the time of Stansfield's earlist experiences as a singer, when she neither had started a successful solo career, nor she was part of Blue Zone yet, her very first band, in which her husband and collaborator, Ian Devaney, played too, as well as Andy Morris, who, along with them two, also co-wrote Lisa's whole solo debut album, "Affection", much of her second long playing work, "Real Love", and the soundtrack for the film "Indecent Proposal", entitled In All the Right Places, also included on the singer's third LP, "So Natural" (the first fully realized by the couple Devaney/Stansfield only). Blue Zone formed back in 1986, and agreed to go each their own separate way, so to say, shortly before the time when Coldcut invited Lisa as a guest vocalist on their own smash hit People Hold On, since a band could not present another band as a guest starring act - hence, Ian, Andy and Lisa's own decision to go on together, crediting the whole thing to Lisa Stansfield only.
The unauthorized 14-track collection actually contains pleasant moments of white soul (a genre which was also embraced by a number of other artists in the Eighties, such as Paul Young, George Michael and Boy George), in Stansfield's most typical style, also including her first 3 singles ever: Alibis (closing the record), The Only Way (opening it), and Listen to Your Heart (fifth song in the track listing), whereas either Lisa's fourth single, I Got a Feeling, and Blue Zone's only modest success, Jackie, are both omitted.
