In Hell is a 2003 action thriller film directed by Ringo Lam and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.
[edit] Plot
Van Damme plays Kyle Lord, an American working in Russia who is sent to prison for murdering the man who attempted to rape and later killed his wife. The prison warden forces the prisoners to fight one another in no holds barred battles.
[edit] Reception
Although it went straight to DVD in the US, most fans and critics alike responded very well to In Hell for its downbeat tone and ultra-realistic fight scenes. Most critics noticed that Van Damme is blossoming as a serious actor in the film and fans made it a huge video hit in 2003 to the tune of well in excess of 30 million in rentals alone, where it even out-grossed many high-profile theatrical movies as well. It has also been released in theaters overseas to varying degrees of success.
