"In God's Hands" is a song written and produced by Nelly Furtado and Rick Nowels for Furtado's third album, Loose (2006). It is about Furtado's breakup with DJ Jasper Gahunia, the father of her daughter.[1] According to Furtado in May 2006, the song was "as far as I was willing to go in terms of pop right now".[2] On April 15, 2008 a remix featuring Keith Urban was released as a digital download worldwide. The radio mix of the song is shorter than the album version and video edit, and it contains added strings and beats.[citation needed] There is a Spanish version of the song titled "En las Manos de Dios" on the limited summer edition of Loose.[citation needed]
The CD single for "In God's Hands" was released in Australia on October 12, 2007.[citation needed] For a limited time, it was available only in the Australian store JB Hi-Fi, before being released on its online store.[citation needed] In Canada, the single was released to radio and video stations in December 2007.[citation needed] It was the sixth single released from the album in Canada. Including the Latin America-only singles "Te Busqué" and "No Hay Igual", "In God's Hands" was the album's eighth single.
In the Netherlands, the single was to be released on December 14, 2007[citation needed] as the seventh single from Loose. "In God's Hands" was Furtado's seventh consecutive single to be chosen as the Alarmschijf ( "Alarm record"" ) by the country's most popular radio station.[citation needed]
The single reached the top twenty on the Dutch Top 40 and the Italian Singles Chart. It reached the top ten in Poland, where it stayed in the chart for 30 weeks[4] and Slovakia. In Germany, it debuted at number thirty-eight and peaked at number thirty-three. It peaked outside the top forty in Austria and Sweden.[5] In the United Kingdom, "In God's Hands" debuted at number 116.[6]
There is also a newly recorded duet version with Country Superstar Keith Urban it was most added at U.S. Adult Contemporary radio with 10 adds the airplay chart week dated April 4, 2008 [7]. This version was released on April 15th for download on iTunes in Canada and the United States, reaching the #7 position on Canadian iTunes in just it's first day and on it's second day it reached number 3. This version of the song first charted on the Canadian Hot 100 at #11, the "Hot Shot" of the week. This song has become Keith Urbans's highest charting song on the Canadian Hot 100.

A music video for the song was shot on May 9, 2007 between 5 and 7 a.m. in Los Angeles, California;[citation needed] it was directed by Jesse Dylan.[8] It features Furtado on a beach during both daytime and nighttime, singing the song while sitting on a tree stump, lying on the sand and holding a white sheet, which she lies under. Furtado is also shown walking on the shore, weeping and looking onto the ocean.
The video premiered in the UK on June 15.[citation needed] In Australia, it was shown on the ABC program rage on August 10,[9] and was available on the iTunes Store on December 13, 2007.[citation needed] In Canada, the video premiered on MuchMusic in November 2007.[citation needed] It was made available for viewing on MTV.com and VH1.com,[citation needed] and it was released in the United States on December 19 on MTV's Total Request Live.[10] On VH1's VSpot Top 20 Countdown, "In God's Hands" debuted at number one.[citation needed] On February 19, 2008 the video became available on the American iTunes Store.
A video for the Spanish language version, "En las Manos de Dios", was released in September 2007 in Latin America.[citation needed]
