Imperatriz is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Maranhão. Its population is 230,450.

There are two defined seasons: winter or rainy season (October through April) and summer or dry season (May through September). The months where "cold" predominates are June and July, and the months where heat predominates are August through October. The average temperature of the municipality fluctuates between 21 and 38 Celsius (70 and 100 Fahrenheit).

The municipality is cut by the Tocantins River, as well as many tributaries.
