I've noticed, while wandering on some movie\actor articles, that the links (on the external links section) to IMDb.com vary too much.

I think that since Wikipedia should be organized and conventioned, we should set some standard to IMDb links, and since these are common, we could use a template.

That's why I made this one. Later, it was decided we should have two templates, one for people and one for titles.

Here they are, with examples on how to use and how they look like rendered.

Template:imdb title
{{imdb title|id=0371724|title=The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy}}
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy at the Internet Movie Database
Template:imdb name
{{imdb name|id=0000197|name=Jack Nicholson}}
Jack Nicholson at the Internet Movie Database

For detailed instructions on how to use them, check Template talk:imdb name and Template talk:imdb title.

I disagree because:

  • It is much easy to copy and paste a url to put a link instead of using some programming language like syntax.
  • We need to teach people about the existence of this template, which takes away our precious time to write articles.
  • The use of bots is more common to fix the style issues.
  • Parsing templates could reduce server performance.

In other words, the general consensus is not to use templates if there is no pressing need to do so. -- Taku 23:50, Oct 27, 2004 (UTC)

I've created a new template for production company pages at the imdb, here's inf. about it and its usage:

Template:imdb company
{{imdb company|id=0114132|company=Gorky Film Studios}}
Gorky Film Studios at the Internet Movie Database
