[edit] Image:Beslan_survivors.jpg
- Copyright violation. I see no indication that this is a unique historic photograph, and this is likely a gross misuse that fair use tag, along with a complete misunderstanding of what that tag means. As an Associated Press photograph (we explicitly prohibit press photos from being used under a fair use rationale except under the rarest of circumstances), our use here certainly competes with the copyright holder and decreases the value of the copyright to its holder. See the image's talk page for more arguments for deletion; claims that we can use this due to similar copyright abuses elsewhere on Wikipedia, or because the event would be "incomprehensible" without this image are unfounded. — Rebelguys2 talk 06:19, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- Delete as blatant violation of WP:FUC#2. AP makes a living from licensing it's images, any free use of it's images (that's not for commentary on the image itself) impact its business. --Abu badali (talk) 23:00, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

- Rubbish unencyclopaedic image. license under false pretenses. — Адам12901 T/C 14:07, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- 'Keep'There is no other free-use image availble for this school, therefore a satalite image which accuratly shows the school buildings and layouts is better than no image Tamatisk 14:30, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- Regardless if it's considered fair use or not, there is nothing encyclopaedic about it. The layout of the school is not discussed in the article, and doesn't provide the same information that a photograph would from the front. A remote sensing image (not satellite) image doesn't provide any meaningful information. --Адам12901 T/C 12:16, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- Delete. Per WP:FU, "Copyrighted images that reasonably can be replaced by free/libre images are not suitable for Wikipedia." This school still exists, so it's reasonably possible for someone to go snap a photo of it, so we shouldn't be using a fair use image. TomTheHand 14:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

onin the Parliament. The image doesn't seem to add any noteworthy information that isn't already conveyed with text. Abu badali (talk) 20:05, 17 April 2007 (UTC)- Do not delete By virtue of the fact the photograph shows the "First Minister answering questions in parliament", rather than on the Parliament, relates directly to the material it sits beside, and illustrates it per Wikipedia guidelines. The rationale for the image clearly illustrates that a free image of such a situation is not able to be obtained, given that private photography is forbidden during parliamentary sessions, and that private citizens are not allowed on the floor of the Chamber during plenary sessions. Globaltraveller 18:03, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- Comment - The point here is not either this image is replaceable (WP:NFCC#1) but either it's necessary (WP:NFCC#8). It's not clear to me why we would need an unfree image showing the the "First Minister answering questions in parliament" to explain that the First Minister answers questions in the parliament. --Abu badali (talk) 18:22, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

- Comment WP:NFCC#8 :- The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose. The illustration does exactly this, it specifically illustrates the relevant points in the section of the article. Thanks Globaltraveller 13:20, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- Commet In this case, the image doesn't "illustrates". It just "decorates". I don't see what kind of illustration the information "the First Minister answers questions in the parliament" would need. --Abu badali (talk) 19:32, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

The value of this site comes from it's exclusive images and our use of this image (regardles of the tag used) replaces the original market role for this image (i.e., illustrate a webpage about this tv show/character). - My concerns are about the necessity of this image (WP:NFCC #8) and not about the availability of "free-license alternatives" (anyway, the availability of free-alternatives is irrelevant. The feasibility is what really matters). Also, our is not fair. It's simply the exact the same use that AP or one of it's clients would be doing. --Abu badali (talk) 21:23, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

- cbs.com is not a source for promotional material (read the site's terms of use). Images as this is exactly what gives the site a diferential over unnoficial sites and our use of this image is competitive to the copyright holder. Abu badali (talk) 23:17, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- Most of the Y&R character images are from CBS.com. I do not see how this image decreases the value of the copyright to its holder when the source is clearly provided. There has already been a discussion and the result was to keep the image. Kogsquinge 01:50, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- This is how it decreases the value for the copyright holder: If you want to read a webpage about Malcolm Winters, a fictional character from a CBS's soap opera, you can go to Wikipedia.org or to CBS.com. As the copyright holder, CBS.com has the advantage of displaying exclusive content. Oh, wait... Wikipedia also uses this "exclusive" content??? So CBS no longer has it's advantage.
- Also, could you point to the discussion regarding this concerns were taken?
