Wikipedia:Imagemap Bug
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is used to demonstrate a bug in the <imagemap> feature. If there are more than 19 entries (polygons, rectangles, circles), the page will not render, meaning it cannot be previewed nor can it be saved.
To show this bug, open this page for editing and change any of the #poly entries in the <imagemap> section, then click on 'show preview'. The page not only doesn't render the preview, the page never generates at all; it is a completely blank page. This behavior occurs in Netscape 7.2, Firefox 1.5.0.10 AND Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180, and is consistently repeatable in all browsers.
This page was originally at Area code 760.

[edit] Original Page
North American area code 760 is a California telephone area code which encompasses much of the eastern portion of the state, as well as a great deal of Southern California. The area code includes Imperial, Inyo, and Mono Counties, as well as portions of San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Kern Counties. Proposals of a new telephone area code 442 for North San Diego county remains on hold before the go ahead by the California Public Utilities Commission.

[edit] History
760 was created March 22, 1997 out of what were then parts of the area codes 714 and 619. In less than two years, however, the North American Numbering Plan Administration stated that the area code was running out of telephone numbers, and proposed two possibilities for remedying the situation: a geographic area code split, or an area code overlay. However, the public was dissatisfied with these possibilities, so the state instead examined the possibility of conserving telephone numbers, a great deal of which are currently held but unused by various companies within the area code. A proposed split as of October 2000 was postponed. Hearings have been held in February 2007 2007 to revive this split proposal.
The association responsible for giving out area codes and phone numbers proposes either dividing the 760 area code into two areas – one that would keep the 760 and one would be assigned a new code, 442. The study also suggest that they could impose an “overlay” in which new customers would be given the 442 area code.
[edit] Manual service
Areas within this area code which had manual service in history include:
- Death Valley Junction, Inyo County, California

[edit] Kelso
In the 1940s, Kelso, a Union Pacific Railroad town, had manual service. There was a single telephone in the community located at the railroad depot. Manual service in the area was on a party line and utilized ringing patterns. Kelso's ring was 1 long and 2 short according to oral history related by a 1940s resident.
