Concordia Newsletter
Community Justice is no more. It has been reformed to Concordia. Membership has been transferred.
Concordia is an organization of editors on Wikipedia that strive to encourage civility and fair treatment among all editors in the Wikipedian community, from the Wikignome to the Wikiholic. The project was designed to have a friendly and helpful environment to support any unfortunate Wikipedians that have become victims of incivility, hostility, or continual disrespect.
We currently need help in getting going, and making the community understand our aims. We work for civility. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you have ideas, let us know at our talk page, or on the IRC channel. We aim to spread civility in every way we can.
Should you wish to unsubscribe to future newsletters, please add your name to Wikipedia:Concordia/Do Not Spam.
Thank you for your time. If you need anything, feel free to comment at WT:CCD or come into our IRC channel [1].

[edit] Admin coaching
Hi Ilyanep, I noticed you are assigned to Youremyjuliet as a coach, but it is still listed as pending. Could you please move it to active if/when it is, and let me know when you if/when you are ready to take on a new trainee (just to keep this thing moving, and try and make a dent in the backlog!). Thanks, Petros471 21:00, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I was supposed to be here to answer any questions, but it appears there were none directed to me, so I don't know what to do :\ — Ilyanep (Talk) 00:09, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] IMSA
Hey...I was looking up some stuff for Wiki for work and ended up looking at the IMSA page cause I was bored. Then, I saw someone's name who looked mildly russian, so I clicked on you. I think... and correct me if I'm wrong on this... that you are the kid that Schmidty (Kevin Schmidt) mentioned as being a student of his mom. I'm one of his friends, and I was kinda intrigued by the fact that you are russian, cause I'm russian too. Where are you originally from? Anyway, I figured I'd shoot you an email and see if you had any questions about IMSA and all that, seeing as how i went through all of that last year. I'm gonna be a Jr. next year (in case you haven't figured it out yet). I don't know if it's different for guys but I know my mom was all panicked about leaving me at an "internatnaya shkola", so I wanted to know if you wanted any information that would make your parents less uneasy. Anyway, seeing your profile, it seems that you'll fit in fine at IMSA. Being all geekishly profficiant in l33t and all. jk ;) Don't spend too much time online once you get to IMSA though. It is sometimes nice to actually go out and make really friends. lol. BTW, I think that you might actually get irn in the beginning of school, because I know that most of our class got it pretty early in Oct. because the teachers complained that we need the internet for hw; and I think that your class might get it even earlier. So you guys can start all of that homework even earlier. lol. Feel free to drop me an email at dana_virgo@yahoo.com; if u have any questions or just want to know something about IMSA <3Dani

[edit] A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

- Hey there. Many users really set their own standards. For example, I used to do mine whenever the scrollbar got to be about a centimeter on the screen, now I do it at 50. Others rarely do it at all. I'd just choose a good number that you're comfortable with. — Ilyanep (Talk) 22:11, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Dear Ilyanep,
Thanks for the helpful hand.
It is true I just barged into Wikipedia, BUT for good reason.
I did not want another day to go without the world knowing about the incredible Gillian Lynne.
Mea culpa - I have not learnt all the rules and will do when a moment occurs, but thank you again for pointing the way.

[edit] Orangey
Hi thanks a lot for your friendly welcoming message. You didn't know what you were getting into when you kindly offered advice. i am trying to learn how to do this and though I am looking at instructions and policies and trying to be careful, and always hit "Show preview". Yet already I have already screwed something up and I am afraid people will be angry at me.
I was trying to change the name of an article from Orangy to Orangey which is the correct spelling. But apparently someone had previously changed it from the correct spelling to the incorrect one, so it was already redirected from "Orangey" and I couldn't change it back.
Then I thought I would make it be "Orangey (Cat)" --adding the word "Cat", with first letter capitalized, as in Library of Congress format for specific animals, for example "Rin Tin Tin (Dog)" (OKay I know Wickipedia has its own standards not always identical to LC practice, for creating terms and authorized versions of names. But I still couldn't figure out how to make it just plain "Orangey" either since someone else had gone and changed it from that before.)
OK, here is where I really messed up--having gone to look up some instructions, I went and hit Move before I was back at Orangy, and thus moved the wrong page to "Orangey (Cat)"!! And it was Wickipedia Quick Guide!! Oh no! I realised immediately with great embarassment what I had done and immediately moved it back around...but found it was not so simple as that. Now, because of that little slip of a mouse, a page called "Orangey (Cat)" now existed (as totally useless page with no history, and is redirected to the Quick Guide) which meant now I could not move "Orangy" to "Orangey (Cat)" either.
I read about requesting moves and requesting deletes and double redirects, and all the steps and code seemed so complicated that I am afraid I gave up for then and made it "Orangey (cat)" with small "c". So it is (probably) not conforming to Wickipedia, not conforming to LC, but--well at least it is finally spelled correctly.
By that point I was wondering what ever possessed me to change it in the first place! All this fuss about a little cat! But at least this could be worse, if I should have done it with a very important and popular article.
Then I found the text of the article was plagiarized so I rewrote the article. So hopefully I contributed something besides havoc and chaos. When I saw someone left me a message I was afraid, I thought they might be yelling at me. But you were very nice. I really am very sorry! What would be the best way out of the mess with the titles? --Wichienmaat
[edit] Sorry and thanks
Sorry for the problem with the welcome template. I hope you don't mind if I use it. I am fixed the problem and I appreciate you bringing that to my attention. —Kf4bdy talk contribs
Hi Ilyanep, thank you so much for your help fixing Orangey, especially since it turned out you were even more of an innocent bystander than was K4bdy. I'm sorry I sent you my long and confused lament out of the blue. I'm not sure how I did it--I really am reading instructions, I promise. Who would think that I actually catalogue things for a living!? --Wichienmaat 05:58, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Commons-l subscription
Hello Ilyanep,
as per commons:Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.
If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence* 23:00, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- No problem -- I'm already subscribed to wikipedia-l, wikien-l and wikinews-l, so i probably won't notice another list since I make the messages skip my inbox anyways :) — Ilyanep (Talk) 14:49, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Am I Blind!?
Hello! Maybe I am blind but again I can't find information in all these FAQs! My Q is about tags ... or maybe there is another word to describe that thing! OK - the story is about table in witch is showing a next and previous page! For example: now i am working with European Hit Radio Top 40 page! I want to create that thing -> When i am in ... Top 40 (2005) page i can see below in grey table an automatic link to next years Top 40 page and previous year Top 40 page!
I Check out another pages and there was a syntax or tag or ...... - whatever it calls, but it looks like this (of course without spaces) > { { some text here } }
<- see - it works on every page! But how can i build my own bar/syntax/tag .... ?
Thank You! --Digital1 01:02, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Is it russian? I imagine it's written Илянэп, unless there are some soft or hard signs I forgot.--The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 18:48, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes it's Russian, as my family speaks Russian. I was like three when we moved to the US, so I speak more or less well, but I have a small vocabulary and I read/write really slowly (and sometime incorrectly). That's more or less how it'd be written, except instead of э, I think it's е. — Ilyanep (Talk) 19:50, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Oh, it's just that I thought "e" translates to "ye" or "yo" most of the time, except for some less standardized styles. In any case, it looks really cool in cyrillic. I think my name would be Икыройд or Икиройд, depending on how you pronounce the second "i." Anyway, Russian is quite sophisticated, the language is much too intimidating for me to learn, but I still like to admire it from afar ;).--The ikiroid (talk·desk·Advise me) 00:23, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:TedDansonBecker.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:TedDansonBecker.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rossrs 13:22, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Concordia Newsletter
Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.
[edit] Help out now!
- Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
- Give people the Civility Barnstar.
- Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
- Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
- Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.
We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.
[edit] Decision Making
The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.
If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.
