[edit] Request for IP address unblock

I have noticed that my IP address has been mysteriously blocked? Well, it says I committed vandalism after several warnings. My IP is 24.254.31.103. so...I guess if it's really necessary to block it, I'll just have to use my neighbor's like right now when I'm using Wikipedia which only makes it more difficult and time consuming. I would really appreciate it if you consider unblocking it. Thanks.

Hi Ilyanep, I'm not an admin and I can't indef block User:Alexander007 a clone account of my account, User:Alexander 007 (with a space). I'm wondering if you would like to permanently block User:Alexander007. As User talk:Alexander007 states, I do not know who created the doppleganger account about two months after mine. [edit] Map Glitches for Call of Duty 2

Hello. I looked on the multiplayer map glitches section, and I found no glitches when I tried it. I have the game, and the maps listed have no glitches, (as far as I saw)...I am sorry if you are not the person who added that section, and if you aren't, could you please inform whoever is, because in my game, there are no glitches. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aditya Gune (talkcontribs)

I've been trying to keep that article free of uncited information, but apparently to no avail. Try posting a request at Talk:Call of Duty 2. Meanwhile, I'll try to go through and remove dubious things. BTW, might it be a difference between CoD2 for PC and CoD2 for X360? — Ilyanep (Talk) 02:14, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. [edit] Deceased wikipedian

A wikipedian is an "office," not a "person." Therfore a wikipedian can no more be deceased than a monarch and "the king is dead long live the king."Myrtone (the strict Australian wikipedian)(talk)(Contribs)

Actually, as most people see Wikipedia as a place, a Wikipedian is indeed a person and can be deceased just as any American or Canadian. — Ilyanep (Talk) 20:16, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

"as any American or Canadian" North America Centric, there's us Australians too. "a Wikipedian is indeed a person and can be deceased" No, that's the founder of a user name and it's user page. When the founder of a user name and userpage is deceased, they could easily (in theory) pass it on to an heir. This is why I see a wikipedian as an office, not a person, a userpage is more lie a throne than a "person." I would not be surprised if some user domains have been passed on throne style.Myrtone (the strict Australian wikipedian)

Except an office implies that there was an election to put a person in a position, or they were appointed. So a wikipedian can't be an "office".
From wiktionary: office (offices)
  1. A building or room where clerical or professional duties are performed.
  2. A bureau, an administrative unit of government.
  3. (good offices) mediation or help in resolving a dispute.

Your use of "office" is illogical. pschemp | talk 02:22, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

"A building or room where clerical or professional duties are performed./A bureau, an administrative unit of government./(good offices) mediation or help in resolving a dispute." Do any of these definitions really imply election. The use of that word which you call "illogical," is based on the following proveb: "The king is a office not a person." The king is an office because the king inherets the throne. Similarly, if a user domain losses is founder, it could be passed on like a thorne, therefore, it is an office in the sense that a monarch is an office, not a "person. Myrtone (the strict Australian wikipedian)

A king is an administrative unit of government appointed (I said they could be appointed) by the fact of their birth. A king is not an office. A kingship may be an office. Thus, a wikipedian is not an office, however, wikipedianship is the closest but since it can't be passed on (legally) it doesn't qualify. Not to mention you really should have some respect for the dead. pschemp | talk 17:37, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism Detection Bot

Hey. Sorry about what's going on with the channel and all. I'm just wondering why you would need to replace '#wikipedia-en-vandalism' by hand? Is there not a find and replace function in whatever you use to code your bot? — Ilyanep (Talk) 01:44, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

The code does not contain the channel name of channels in its code anymore. It generates #wikipedia-en-vandalism from wikimedia channel #en.wikipedia. If the channel was meta.wikimedia the freenode channel would be #wikimedia-meta-vandalism. This is a standard with version 2.0 of my bot.
  • The reason for this is to increase efficiency of the bot so it doesn't lag.
It is technically posible to introduce an if/else structure and give en.wikipedia an exception. This would probably take me weeks since I'd have to practicaly double the amount of code the bot has. This would also decrease bots efficiency by 50% as there would be twice the amount of code now.
Another problem is that many files (with fragmets of code such as language files) and hashtables expect the channel name of the channel to be in the standard #wikipedia-xx-vandalism format.
Yet another problem is my moving of 12+ channels... I am not keen on moving an armada of channels.
There are perhaps other problems I haven't even thought about.
#wikipedia-en-vandalism is a redirect channel and hence isn't used. All it takes is half a minute of work (asigning it a new password etc) to turn the channel something useful. The bot was working on the channel for months.
--Cool CatTalk|@ 06:54, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Oh...well that's unfortunate :( Hope you can get your bot working soon. — <span style="font-variant:Small-caps;color:black;">Ilyanep (Talk) 19:57, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
I can the second Essjay decides to cooperate, unless that happens the bot wont function. I will not spend months recoding the bot just to satisfy Essjay's ego. And from my standing that is the only problem... --Cool CatTalk|@ 07:03, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Babel

First, just let me say that I think it is totally awesome that you are an admin and b-cat at 14. (AKA: me by the time I turn 15).
But anyways, I was wondering if you knew how to start a new Babel language. I created {{User ns-2}} for users who can contribute "middlewise" (okay) in Newspeak, such as myself. I can also create more for different levels. However, I was hoping you could tell me how to make it an official Babel language, and how to list it on WP:Babel, as I believe a lot of people would enjoy having it on there, although it is a "fictional" language. Anyways, thanks a ton! Later, zappa.jake (talk) 16:38, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Grand Master of the Universe Ilya Nep!

You are the most incredible person alive. You are a Wikipedia bureaucrat/administrator, 6'1", and you know the two hardest languages, and you're 14 years old! As a fellow tetradecagenarian, I am jealously impressed. You must have a high stress load from being one of the only twenty-two bureaucrats on the largest Wikimedia project. Keep up the great work, and don't let the stress of your important job get to you. I know that my considerably lower title of Wikinews administrator is much less of a stressor. My God you're incredible. Thank you for ruling my freely-editable domain on my Wikinews user page. —THIS IS MESSEDImage:R with umlaut.pngOCKER (TALK) 02:21, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Haha. Thanks for the kind words. When you put it that way, I guess I ought to be given an award or something :P (j/k). I'm really kind of a lazy bureaucrat [seems like Essjay and Nichalp do 99% of the work lately]. And as far as knowing the two hardest languages, it doesn't really seem to be that big a deal when you've known them since childhood. And being tall isn't really my choice :P but I wouldn't have it any other way. Anyways, thanks for that message and you're pretty incredible yourself. Have a nice day/evening/night/morning/whenever you read this — Ilyanep (Talk) 03:42, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Since your head hasn't radiantly exploded yet, mind sharing me some secret spices? And by "secret spices", I mean secrets to being an administrator and not having your head explode? Thanks for sticking up for me on my RFA (the "hideous signature" comment part); I've begun to think that everyone hates me. :P Just kidding, I don't, and in case you ask, I won't get stressed out or leave Wikipedia; I'm more mature than that. No offence, but yours was one of the signatures I would've cited; however, I didn't want to drag innocents into the fray. Thanks and at the same time sorry, _-M o P-_ 02:14, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Haha no problem. And I wouldn't have minded getting dragged into it. However, it does make me think about whether or not I want to somehow revise my signature. Currently, I'm thinking 'nah'. :P — Ilyanep (Talk) 02:17, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
How's this for mature? Mopp e rzOMG 02:20, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
And I'm thinking "yah" for me... if people will oppose on the grounds of it reflecting my maturity, I'll trust them. Though I don't quite get how how many lines of code your signature uses is any indication of my maturity level... _-M o P-_ 02:21, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
If you really want to then do what you want :) . I'd suggest making the e stand out somehow other than font sizes (make it green or something), cause it kind of stretches the sig on viewing. Definitely cuts down on the code though :P
And I agree -- I don't really see how maturity correlates with sig size. I know and respect a great deal of people who [happen to] even go as far as put images in theirs. Not that I condone that. — Ilyanep (Talk) 02:22, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
I guess its a point of view. I'll see what I can come up with that satisfies everyone though. Thanks. _-M o P-_ 02:24, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Frankly, I shouldn't have taken that as my main reason for opposition. There are other reasons I have for opposition, and I've clarified my vote at RFA. I recognize that long sigs don't mean immaturity (you're a great example of that); it's just that it seems too many immature users I've known had massively long sigs. My apologies if I've offended you; this was truly not my intent. Ral315 (talk) 03:09, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Community Justice is an organization that is trying to promote civility across the Wikipedia community. You could say that they share some goals with Esperanza. I recently got elected to serve on the council. The councillors serve on the council, which includes the councillors, the chief executive, and the chairman. Thanks for welcoming me back. I'm also pretty sure I remember you (at least your name). AlexPlank 20:14, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Ok, i've done some thinking and I certainly remember you now. AlexPlank 23:55, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
We should have a get together of all the old school wikipedians like angela, eloquence, tim, you, me, etc. I can fly anywhere so location doesn't matter to me. AlexPlank 23:56, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Hah. That would be so much fun, but I really don't know if I can travel much :P. Maybe if they held a Wikimania in Chicago *nudges whoever organizes those things*. — Ilyanep (Talk) 00:03, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Thank you, that's really nice of you. Did you find it on Esperanza? With kind regards.. Gryffindor 20:17, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Yep, I found it on ESP. — Ilyanep (Talk) 22:09, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
Stressbusters
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

[edit] By the way

Would you mind changing my username to "Raichu". I'll move my userpage and stuff. He's my fave Pokemon (I do love it (Pokemon)). Jonathan235 21:43, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help

I am Raichu. I am just at school. Some vandal must have changed my password by typing my useranme and using the "E-mail me new password" feature, because I can't get into my account. I tried every possible password. Guess if I can't get back into my account in a couple days I'll use that feature. I asked you because you are a b-crat and you might have some tool that could help me. 63.238.167.45 14:48, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry. I don't hae any tools that deal with passwords or e-mails. I'd ask a Developer if you have trouble since they have Database access. — Ilyanep (Talk) 20:27, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Don't worry, I got back into my account at home. Raichu 00:29, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

That's good :) — Ilyanep (Talk) 00:30, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sandbox Header

Well, I think it's because people wanted to have the "Please leave this line alone" part to tell testers to leave the transclusion line alone, even though half the time they don't care...G.He 02:39, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza hopes that your stress will blow away soon.

I'm sorry to hear that you are considering leaving Esperanza, especially since you are one of the longstanding member, and I'm sorry you weren't informed about the drama of the past few days earlier. I hope that over the wikibreak, you and I and other Esperanzians can exchange ideas about how to solve some of Esperanza's problems and that they can be implemented at the breaks end. If you do decide that you can no longer want to be part of Esperanza, I hope that you find peace and happy editing elsewhere. :) -JCarriker 02:36, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey. Thanks for the kind message. I don't know about leaving Esperanza quite yet, but the thought has occurred as I see many people leaving. I'd like to see ESP get back on track to its original goal. Maybe we can fix some things during the wikibreak. — Ilyanep (Talk) 02:53, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A smile for you!

Thanks :) What a good idea — Ilyanep (Talk) 04:12, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] John Kerry

There was an edit with someone's personal info, and I was getting rid of it at a different location so it's less likely to be accidentally undeleted, or even seen, later. Maybe I should have mentioned it on the talk page, but I was trying to call less attention to the personal info, not more. It should be clear from my admin logs what I was doing, anyway. -GTBacchus(talk) 17:14, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I get it now. There's John Kerry, and there's Talk:John Kerry. I think I've cleared everything up now, and buried all the personal info in unmarked graves. Sorry for any inconvenience. -GTBacchus(talk) 17:31, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Alright. Thanks for clearing that up. — Ilyanep (Talk) 17:38, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Community Justice Newsletter

Community Justice Newsletter

Welcome
Previously, various notices regarding Community Justice have gone out to our members; though this is the first actual newsletter. This issue will contain information regarding decisions made on the first meeting, our new council, and more...!

If you wish to unsubscribe to future newsletters, please add your name to Wikipedia:Community Justice/Do Not Spam.

New Council
Following our first elections, a new council has been elected.Computerjoe and Ian13 remain as chairman and chief executive (respectively); while Eddieh, Wiki alf and Xchrisblackx are replaced as councillors by Ilyanep, Osbus and Covington. The Giant Puffin and Pureblade remain as councillors.
Member Conduct
In the last meeting, the conduct of 4 members was discussed. Ethnopunk will be put on probation, supervised by Ian13, if he/she is incivil during this probation, he/she will be expelled from WP:CJ; the same was decided for Misza13 (voluntarily), and his probation will be supervised by Computerjoe. No action will be taken against Computerjoe.
Barnstar
The Civility Barnstar which our members have designed has been sent to Barnstar and award proposals. We'd appreciate your feedback!

Also, we are planning to make a Community Justice barnstar to give to hard-working CJ members. If you're a budding designer, consider trying to make it, then post your proposal to WT:CJ!

Name and logo change
There has been no consensus reached regarding changing our name and/or logo neither at WT:CJ nor at WT:CJ/M/1. While suggestions are still welcome, no action will be taken at this time.
Programs
We are going to try to create programs to more actively involve our members. If you have any ideas, please drop a line at WT:CJ. We will try to work with WP:ESP on one of these programs, at some point in the future.
Thanks!
Thank you for your time. If you need anything, feel free to comment at WT:CJ or come into our IRC channel [1].

Computerjoe wishes to extend his thanks to User:Robchurch, a non-member who assisted in making {{tracker}} redundant, as well as Misza13 for his continued support and to the whole of this and the previous council.

This newsletter was delivered by CJBot, written by Computerjoe, with technical help from Misza13. Computerjoe's talk 19:30, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A Favor

Could you please have a chat with Jayjg about this I think it is a violation of WP:CIVIL, but I'm not sure. TTFN. Raichu 21:50, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza's Admin Coaching

Hey! Thanks for signing up in Wikipedia:Esperanza's Admin coaching program. Since you've volunteered to help train a user, I've assigned Youremyjuliet to you and to your partner, FayssalF. Please make sure to be kind and helpful to your coachee. If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks again! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 20:41, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:32, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CJ Vote

I have set up a quick vote, as a counciler, may I ask you voice your opinions. Thanks! Ian13/talk 14:31, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfA

I notcied that you've left messages for Zappa.jake on his talk page, so I thought you mihgt want to vote in his RfA at WP:RFA. ShortJason 15:13, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

I apologize for ShortJason's advertising. Normally most people consider it unacceptable to advertise RfAs (Requests for Adminship) on people's talk pages. I have asked him to stop here. Regardless, now that it's here, if you do wish to vote, do so here. Sorry, zappa.jake (talk) 19:14, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
