Adoption Page

Here I will collect all the questions and answers I had with my adoptees.

Youre Dreaming Eh?

Adoption

Question: First off, the main reason I applied for adoption was because I was (and still am) having trouble finding pages which I can contribute a fair ammount to. I had a few major edits near the start of my wikipedianship, but I soon ran out of steam and just started fixing typos and reverting vandalism. Actually, on the topic of vandalism, do you have any suggestions for antivandalism tools? I was going to download VandalProof, but I need a recommended 250 mainspace edits before getting approval. What are mainspace edits? Have a good one! Youre dreaming eh? (talk) 01:11, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Answer: Hey! Mainspace edits mean edits to an article. It doesnt include userpages, talk pages or images. For example, Canada is an mainspace-article. [1] <-- click on the link to see how many edits you have at the moment. Oh and about the anti-vandalism tools: I recommend you to use Twinkle. I found it very easy to use. We can also find you some pages you can contribute to. Just tell me what subject interests you the most, and we can search something for you to edit. :) Ilyushka88 (talk) 09:38, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Ilyushka

Question: As for what subjects I'm interested in, I enjoy topics on rock music (bands, artists, instruments etc.), computer related subjects, video game topics, and philosophy, though I actually have very little knowledge on the subject (but it's philosophy; that's kind of the point ;-P ). Lastly, I have a question about uploading pictures; from what I've read, it seems okay to scan the cover of an album and upload it, providing that I put copyright information on it (even though album covers don't usually specify copyright info). Is this true? Thanks a lot! Wait... Arg! Twinkle doesn't work on Internet Explorer! Oh well; maybe I'll go through the list of antivandalism tools again and see if there's something there. By the the way, what's a monobook page? Youre dreaming eh? (talk) 22:52, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Answer: hey! Monobook article is where you add add scripts like twinkle so you can use them. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what copyright status album cover needs, but i think it is free lisence. If it's wrongv, you wont get to trouble... I get, as im your adopter. :D Ilyushka88 (talk) 22:59, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Hey! As I said, I wasn't sure about the copyright status of album covers, so I asked someone who knows more about copyrights. Here is the answer: "Album covers can be used in the infobox of the article about the album. They can also be used elsewhere, provided that their use is to illustrate discussion of the design of the cover (or perhaps its newsworthiness) and adds significantly to that discussion in ways that words alone cannot. In all cases, the template {{non-free album cover}} should be used, along with a separate Fair Use rationale for each article in which the cover appears. Your adoptee can use this template for that. -- Hux" :) Ilyushka88 (talk) 15:31, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Question: I realized that if I'm going to be reverting a lot of vandalism, I should start warning users. I found a list of warning templates to help me out, but I'm wondering what the difference is between the levels of vandalism. Thanks! Youre dreaming eh? (talk) 23:48, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Answer: Hey! About the levels of warning-templates: You should usually start up with Level 1, and then go to Level 2. If the same user has already got recent warnings (ex. Level 3) you should add level 4 after that. Sometimes if I will find user with no warnings yet, but I see he does a lot of vandalism in very short time, I will add {{subst:uw-vandalism4im}} to his user page, which will be his "first and only warning". If the user continues vandalising after final warning given, you should report him to Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism. Hope this cleared things up!
