Ilias Ali

Ilias/ Ilyas Ali is a Bangladeshi politician and a former member of the Jatiyo Sangshad (Bangladesh Parliament) [1].

He hails from Bishwanath Upazila and represent Sylhet-2 in parliament. He was linked with student politics and was the vice-president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD -the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, BNP). In 2007, he grabbed huge media coverage due to his dispute with former finance minister Saifur Rahman. Apperantly he is leading one of the fractions of sylhet BNP

Mr Ali appears in the last list for political corruption compiled by the current Caretaker government. In May 2007 Mr. Ali was sued for misappropriation of Local Government funds designated for the construction of a Biswanath union council building in 2003. Mr. Ali also takes part in violent political activities which typifies Bangladesh politics. Within Sylhet Mr. Ali is commonly referred to as 'Pistol Ali' due to his link to gun crime and political violence.
