Il Bellerofonte

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Il Bellerofonte is an Italian-language Baroque opera by Czech composer Josef Mysliveček. It is based on the Greek legend of Bellerophon. The libretto was written by Giuseppe Bonecchi. It was premiered in Naples in 1767 (Oxford Concise Dictionary of Music, 2004).

The first and so far only recording of the opera was carried out in 1987 under Zoltan Pesko with the Czech Philharmonic Chorus and the Prague Chamber Orchestra (available on Supraphon, three DDD CDs, 172 min, 21 s).

An earlier opera of the same name by Francesco Sacrati was first performed in 1642.
