Am I correct in assuming...

I'm a little late to the debate page. Am I correct in assuming that we have a few Serbian/anti-Kosovo posters who are trying to whittle the recognition listing down to nothing by splitting infinitessimal hairs over wordings? Canadian Bobby (talk) 19:30, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

The best I can suggest on that front is to paste in the email in its entirety - including the e-mail address of the respondent for verification purposes. Maybe forward it to Avala? I was a major contributor to the Foreign Relations of Montenegro page when that country was gaining recognition and just citing emails in the sources was good enough for everybody on that page. Kosovo Page

In reference to the other edits on this page, I'm not here to threaten you ;).

International reaction to the 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. ROC

I believe that the category that ROC is currently under "Unrecognised or partially recognised states, seceded regions, and national independence movements" does the ROC justice. The ROC is a partially recognised state and it is listed in the category that other partially recognised states (Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and Northern Cyprus) are listed in. I would not be supportive of moving the ROC ahead of fully recognized nations which refuse to or have not yet recognize/recognized Kosovo. I would support a seperate category for just partially recognized nations (ROC, SADR, Northern Cyprus)... but in the Other Entities section. --Tocino 19:09, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, it all comes down to whether one believes that ROC is a partially recognized state or not. It is only recognized by 23 countries (the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republicis recognized by 43 meanwhile) so for me I beleive that the ROC does not belong with fully recognized, normal nations. Mr. Ijanderson977, it was written in the article Kosovo: "Kosova" redirects here. For other uses, see Kosova (disambiguation). but that was and still is not the case as when I type Kosova it does redirect me to "Kosova (disambiguation)". The aforementioned sentence was deleted in the article today by user Husönd. So I would appreciate your help to achieve a redirect from Kosova to Kosovo. The Kosova Issue

"An encyclopedia, or, traditionally, encyclopædia, is a comprehensive written compendium that contains information on all branches of knowledge or a particular branch of knowledge."

You are suggesting we use the English as the highest form I disagree because WP is an encyclopedia in British-English not English. If we use "Pristina" than for The United States of America we should just simply use America because that is in ENGLISH. Kosova2008 (talk) 20:45, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Communism

I'll be the first person to tell you that the Communism article is seriously messed up, but I think that if you are willing to take some time to revise the article, you will find that it is possible to fix many of its mistakes. This would make much more sense than just deleting it. Please state what exactly you find so horrible about this article. We could use the feedback to fix it. P.S. it is very irresponsible to propose deletion for an article as important as Communism, without even discussing it or giving a reason. Jimmy da tuna 00:27, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

If you are an admin can you look international reaction to the 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence. I am curious who made the description for Uruguay. The Uruguay description reads that their governemnt I'will not''' recognize whereas a translation [1] reads "has not. Really ? Interesting , I thank you and your family for helping my people :).As for the physical condition : cant be compared.Basically everything is better now.For example at the serbian rule the police (serbian of course) were everywhere in the streets and kept looking for a reason to beat up albanians , and you could get beaten up by them just by speaking albanian, and the albanian symbols, you were lucky if you could keep them in your house. Most of the teachers in the schools were serbian, albanian teachers were only allowed if they would teach in serbian language only (luckily this was changed later though), serbian kids got to learn in the classrooms while albanians only in the basements (luckily this was also changed after a short period). And the police often got drunk in the night and kept shooting around like wild baboons , and didn't even care if they hurt anyone , they could also come at your door and take anything they wanted , of course there were gentle police as well but they were very very rare (Please note that I am only referring to the Milosevic period ).Other things were bad as well but I'd hate to write them here now (hope you don't mind).

Can you do me a favour and undo in the article Kosovo the version to my version? They avoid to tread Kosovo like other countries despite the fact, that there are much more disputed countries which are treated in a country-style way with country box and flag at the top, like for example Nagorno-Karabakh_Republic or Transnistria with no country recognizing them or like Northern Cyprus with only one country recognizing them. Pristina

Absolutely. I will support you. The editors who want the Albanian spelling on WP:English are Albanian. Just doing a Google news search shows that Prishtina is rarely used in the English language. Pristina is a good compromise, because if we were staying true to form of decisions on WP then we would use Priština as that is what editors have decided to name the article of the city. However, I realize that Pristina is more widely used and we could never get a consensus to keep Priština on the article we edit on. • I support your efforts too, as I have indicated on the WP Kosovo talk page. If you are interested in correct use of terms considering Kosovo, there is an issue that is perhaps even more important than spelling of "Pristina". What I'm talking about here is the problematics of the adjective that means a citizen/resident of Kosovo. Currently there are many articles that say "Kosovar", however the official guidelines state that the term should not be used at all. Most often this is supposed to be "Kosovan" instead. Papua New Guinea project

This project, like a lot of others related to that part of the world, was basically created as a work group of the parent regional project, but given the "WikiProject" name because of its official independence. It's great to see someone else showing an interest in the subject, though. I'd love to see it get better myself, and will do what I can to help, once I get the various pages of the Project Directory and everything else I've got pending done, with any luck by the end of the month. Vanuatu Trade Missions

Ok, I will assume good faith and explain. A trade mission (or commercial office) is a permanent office run by a government intended to promote a country's trade and investment opportunities in another country. It does not have normal diplomatic status in itself, and thus do not feature in Diplomatic Missions by Country articles.

Another kind of trade mission is when company representatives go to another country to promote themselves, such as what you have linked here to the "Vanuatu Trade Mission in Canberra" . However it is certainly not the kind of trade mission as I have described above. The "mission" only lasted for four days, only covered one industry, and took place anyway in Vanuatu, not Canberra.

Thousands of these kinds of trade missions take place every day around the world. Do you really think they qualify for notability? Kransky (talk) 02:08, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

It's just a basic DRAFT resolution by the Seimas recognizing Kosovo independence and recommending the government to establish diplomatic relations. I don't think you need the full translation. The longer first part just discusses prior positive Lithuanian reaction to the Kosovo declaration. Note, it is dated April 23 (today) and has not yet been voted on. SAA

SAA has an article which says Kosovo is a UN administrated province of Serbia. Now the Serbian Prime Minister claims that the EU countries which have recognized the Kosovo independence have broken this article of the SAA (and therefore he asks how will their parliaments ratify such an agreement) and that there is no sense in signing it until the EU clarifies with whom is it signing the SAA with (Serbia or partial Serbia). Obviously the EU can't answer to that because of its own internal division on this matter. The whole thing about leaving the recognition to individual states has created a lot of problems for the future accession. If the UK says - we are signing it with Serbia without Kosovo, Spain will say - no we are signing it with Serbia with Kosovo. I don't think that the EU has a solution at this point. Today some states tried to change the text of the SAA but that cannot be done at this point anymore as the document is aleady signed by both parties, this is just the final signature for it to start entering into force. Serbian President believes SAA should be signed because it would be another multilateral document which reaffirms Serbia's position on Kosovo. EBU is probably more prone to pressure by Putin then by Kosovo TV station plea. And you are talking about Scotland as it is in this year contest but maybe they want more coverage so they want to enter on their own, maybe they think they can do better than the UK last spots or maybe it's the best way to deal with Kosovo participation as Serbia and Russia will not protest if Scotland enters too. Eligible participants include all Active Members of the European Broadcasting Union. Active Members are those whose states fall within the European Broadcasting Area, or otherwise those who are members of the Council of Europe. The European Broadcasting Area is defined by the International Telecommunication Union. - [5]

While I agree with you on principle about IDONTLIKEIT, I really don't think that's what's going on here. Remember that news outlets are businesses first and public servants second -- while they are obligated by professional standards to adhere to sourceable facts, they have broad leeway in what they report and how the report it (sound familiar?). This is a single, unquoted statement. Although that doesn't make it, on its face, dubious, I think some caution is warranted. And I think that, if you consider it, the reluctance expressed by Tocino is well within the bounds of WP:RS and WP:V. If this source is accurate -- which it, in all likelihood, probably is -- then more sources will probably emerge, at which point there should be no opposition to the quote.

Boldness is in fact extolled as a virtue on Wikipedia, but with protected articles we have to be extra careful -- the rule with protected articles is generally better safe than sorry, no action rather than disputed action.

• Thanks for your full comment. Much appreciated. The Vergina flag, as far as I understand, was pushed on the country by an Australian lobby group. It was nowhere to be found in Skopje or around the country the day it celebrated its independence in 1991. It has now become an irredentist symbol (the Greek Vergina flag simply refers to the Greek province of Macedonia). *As for Skopje propaganda, it exists throughout its institutions and gets on the nerves of many Slav and Albanian Macedonians.
• It is the only country in Europe which publishes irredentist maps at official and private level, waves them at demonstrations, calls for the anexation of neighbouring territories.
• You will NEVER hear a government official mention 'Macedonia' with reference to the Greek province, it is always as Aegean Macedonia or northern Greece. If only they could say 'in the Greek province of Macedonia'. Just google Macedonia and you immediately get an irredentist map. This is not the case with Albania, Serbia, Turkey or any other country one might have expected it.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Bad Script

This movie is yet another manifestation of a trend in Hollywood movies that has been going on for the past 10 years or so: dumb it down! While the last Indiana Jones movie, The Last Crusade, was by no means a doctoral dissertation, it took thought to keep up with everything. In this movie, no thinking required: they constantly repeat everything to the point where you could begin to view the movie at almost any point before the last 10 minutes and not have missed anything. In previous movies, Indiana would pour over intricate riddles, inscriptions and petroglyphs and still never understand them entirely - whereas in this movie there's really only one, constantly repeated by the poorly utilized John Hurt, and they figure it out because it's all based on landmarks. Oooooh.

As a side note, I thought it was rather silly to keep emphasizing that Marcus and his father are dead. The photos on the desk should've sufficed, but they just had to keep bringing it up in case anybody came in late. See the point in the previous paragraph.

Another aspect that stood out to me was the portrayal of the Soviets. Spielberg is nearly expert at portraying Nazis, having made or been involved in so many damn movies about them, but he clearly has no idea what a Soviet spy or soldier is. The Nazis were suave, subtle, very clever and sophisticated agents of evil, while the Soviets are ham-handed, funny-accented klutzes who couldn't steal a piece of paper (literally). They're supposed to be the bad guys, dude! Not comic relief. The villains in the movie are not believable as villains. They show up to everything late and their champions are some corpulent British dude whose motives are never fully explained and whom Indiana Jones keeps allowing to hang around for some illogical reason, although he does punch him a few times, and a weirdo New Age lady who swordfights.

The most damning and damaging to the integrity of the movie was the non-MacGuffin MacGuffin. A MacGuffin, for those unfamiliar, is an object that motivates the actions of the players in the movie, but is itself rarely seen or sometimes not at all. The allure of this object keeps the movie interesting. For example, in Last Crusade, the Holy Grail motivates the entire movie, but you don't see it until the very end. In this movie, you see the crystal skull at every turn - the characters even play a high speed game of keep-away with it. They use it to scare ants and natives. The thing becomes their rather creepy buddy. The motivation only becomes to return the thing, thus robbing the viewer of the anticipation of seeing the skull, what it can do, where's it from, etc etc. They even reveal the skull's origin about halfway through the movie! There's no mystery or suspense!

Finally, the movie seems to have been cobbled together from prior movies that Lucas and Spielberg had made. The crystal skulls look exactly like the aliens from the end of A.I. The car blaring Elvis music at the beginning was clearly taken right out of American Graffiti. They recycled the warehouse from Raiders, the crashing raft scene from Temple of Doom, replacing the yellow raft with a motorized duck, etc.

The space/dimensionship was just silly. The Holy Grail was more believable than that POS plot element. They took a leap off the deep end with that and ruined the movie's credibility entirely. The rather blatant and clumsy reference to handing off the Indy mantle to Shia LeBeouf was also uncalled for.

The movie was mildly entertaining, if wildly flawed and self-destructing.

The Mickey Mouse Club

I am having trouble with an editor removing information of mine that is sourced and cited very well. They are telling me that an "uninterested" editor needs to publish the information, which makes no sense to me as an "uninterested" editor would have no reason to do so. Zachary Jaydon was a cast member on The Mickey Mouse Club, and I have cited numerous Official, Reliable, Non-Secondary Disney Publications that provide this information clearly. The editor keeps removing the information without taking the time to check the sources, which can be done if a small amount of effort is put into it. I believe that this goes against Wiki policy as well as a major lack of the assumption of good faith. Removing unsourced information is one thing, but when an editor takes the time to make an article more informative and accurate, it's very discouraging. Please help!

A bit more investigation may have revealed a different image than you got from TragedyStriker, aka "Skyler Morgan". He is pretty much a single purpose account, dedicated to including information on Zachary Jaydon inside of Wikipedia. None of the works discussing the Mickey Mouse Club include Zachary Jaydon. In fact, the only sources that anyone can find on Zachary are things like IMDB, where the fact checking is pretty loose. Months after trying to get Zachary included, TragedyStriker pops up with a fairly obscure reference: Disney Channel house magazines from 15 years ago. The consensus among all other editors on the article is that the information should stay out until some disinterested editor manages to see a copy of one of these things. I've made a good faith effort, e-mailing editors that have edited the article in the past, posting a request on the RS noticeboard, discussing it on the talk page with other users.
Far from being a problem with me, TragedyStriker's edits have been reverted by me, User:Saratoga Sam, and User:C.Fred. He just hit the fourth revert in 24 hours, so he has now been reported on the 3RR noticeboard. Kww (talk) 20:55, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I've said it at least two times before, that I am an American with Irish and British ancestry and that's it. Some of these Kosovo Albanian editors just assume I am Serb because I have defended the Serb side on that article. These guys probably think that all Americans are pro-Kosovo, but the truth is that probably less than 5% of Americans know of the circumstances in Serbia and Kosovo and I happen to be one of the 5%. Zachary Jaydon

Can you help me with the AfD of my article on Zachary Jaydon? I am not sure what to do, but I've sourced it the best I can, included album and magazine scans.

There seems to be confusion as to the relation between Jaydon D. Paull & Zachary Jaydon. They are one in the same. A large percentage of performers/artists don't go by their legal name. Any notability no matter which of the two names they are credited under are still assertions of nobility under either or both. Many people are eliminating anything that can be user uploaded or changed. I agree with the principle of this in general, however, videos, magazine scans and the such are irrefutable proof of events or facts no matter where they came from. If there is a video of Mr. Jaydon playing with a National Rock Band, you can't say that because it was put up by a "user" that the fact doesn't remain.

  1. Has credit for writing or co-writing either lyrics or music for a notable composition.

Jaydon has written material on several Multi-Platinum records, including *NSYNC, Craig David, Ryan Cabrera and others. These WERE songs that were included on these albums. They weren't scrapped, or obscure B-Sides. These were songs included on official releases by MAJOR artists. He obviously has notable talent if these artists are choosing to work with him. This is obviously an arguable issue, but given the success of the albums his work has been featured on, it seems at the VERY least, notable. These credits are easily verifiable here:

The 3 above sources are all from www.ASCAP.com which is one of the most trusted sources used on Wiki for Songwriter Credit Verification.

([10]) also shows from a VERY large, Fortune 500 companies website with information on Close To Home and confirming Mr. Jaydon's Songwriting Credits. This website would be considered reliable on any front, and also independent of the subject himself.

You need to look up a term

The term is "Mutually Assured Destruction", or MAD in relation to nuclear weaponry and the United States. Than you will realize you're being a bit foolish and by a bit I mean wicked foolish. Beam 22:19, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
