Miralles and Pinós won a competition for the design of the cemetery.
In conception the project reflects the river of life. Railway sleepers are set into the concrete surface to elude to a dried riverbed. The project integrates into the landscape. A processional route descends from the entrance, along a winding path where railway sleepers are set into the concrete surface and elude to a dried riverbed. The route is lined with repeatable concrete burial niches forming retaining walls.
