Hand washing procedure before obstetrical examination. Found it on http://www.euuzlet.hu/galeria/hatterek/2006/semmelweis-nagy.jpg 11 May 2008.
Unfortunately, this may be painted by Michigan artist Robert Thom in the 1950s. See http://www.med.umich.edu/opm/newspage/2007/paintings.htm, the painting style appears similar. If so, this greatly reduces its historical value, as it represents a contemporary artist's impression of what happened - not an eyewitness account.
