[edit] Company History

The Namesake
Mastech Corporation was formed by three students from India who attended Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science. Two of the original co-founders, Ashok Trivedi and Sunil Wadhwani, remain with the company today. Their first initials represent the A and S in Mastech respectively, while the M came from the first initial of the third founding partner.

Rapid Growth
During the dot-com boom of the late 1990's, Mastech grew rapidly through organic growth and several acquisitions--including Symphoni Interactive, IMIS, GRM, and The Amber Group. Another major source of revenue growth for Mastech came from software repairs related to the Y2K bug. Mastech also formed an Enterprise Package Solutions (EPS) division to focus on enterprise application integration, customization, and data migration projects related to Oracle RDBMS, SAP AG, PeopleSoft, Siebel Systems, Cognos, Kronos Inc, and similar implementation projects.

Initial Public Offering
Mastech Systems Corp. stock began trading on the NASDAQ as MAST on December 17, 1996. Its stock price rose 14 percent above its initial price of $15 before closing at $17.125. Sunil Wadhwani and Ashok Trivedi reportedly each made $10 million by selling 700,000 of their own shares.
