If We Fall in Love Tonight is a ballad album released by Rod Stewart on November 1, 1996 (see 1996 in music). It includes mostly previously released songs. The album was released by Warner Bros. Records (WEA 9362-46460-2) in both the US and UK, though the versions differ slightly. It produced the singles “If We Fall in Love Tonight” and “When I Need You”.

If We Fall in Love Tonight contains two tracks, the title track and “For the First Time”, which were written for the album. Two more of the songs had not been released on an album. “So Far Away”, by Carole King, had been released as a single in 1995. “All for Love”, with Bryan Adams and Sting is from the 1993 film The Three Musketeers and had been released on its soundtrack. The album includes two cover versions. “Sometimes When We Touch”, originally sung by Dan Hill, was first released on this album as was “When I Need You”, originally sung by Leo Sayer. Additionally, two songs were remade for If We Fall in Love Tonight. “Have I Told You Lately” by Van Morrison, which was originally released on Vagabond Heart was remixed, while “Forever Young”, originally on Out of Order, was completely re-recorded. The remaining tracks had all been previously released on Rod Stewart albums.

If We Fall in Love Tonight reached #8 in the UK and #19 in the US. On September 9, 1997 it received platinum certification by the RIAA.
