If My World Stopped Turning was the Irish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, performed in English by Chris Doran, who had an unusual previous career, being a former national kick boxing champion.
The song, with music by former Westlife member Bryan McFadden, is a ballad in which Doran sings to his lover about the depth of his feelings ("I can see my future/When I'm looking in your eyes/And I can sense security/Just by you bein' in my life"). He goes on to explain, however, that if his relationship should end, "Then I would still stand tall/'Cause behind it all/You're the one who's made a winner out of me". As was the case for many of the male entrants at that year's Contest, Doran wore a white suit in his performance. There was also a lack of movement, particularly in comparison with those entries which dominated the scoring.
The song was pre-qualified for the final, where it was performed eighteenth on the night (following Iceland's Jónsi with Heaven and preceding Poland's Blue Café with Love Song). At the close of voting, it had received 7 points, placing 22nd in a field of 24, thus requiring Ireland to qualify through the semi-final at their next Contest appearance. It was succeeded as Irish representative at the 2005 Contest by Donna & Joe with Love?.
