IEDC-Bled School of Management, located in Bled, Slovenia, is a leading Business School in Central and Eastern Europe, also described by The Independent as “the best small business school in Europe” [1]. Founded in 1986 upon an initiative of Slovenian business community as the International Executive Development Center, the school has remained strongly supported by business community, in Slovenia and internationally [2].
IEDC is dedicated to executive education only, operates independently from any university, and is run by a group of faculty under the President and Dean Professor Danica Purg, who has served as the dean since the inception. The core intention of IEDC-Bled School of Management is to be an agent of change in the region, so courses, professors, and activities are selected to continuously challenge countries with transitional economies to increase business quality and results. To this end, IEDC has founded CEEMAN – Central and Eastern European Management Development Association, the European Leadership Center, the Slovenian chapter of the United Nations Global Compact, and other regional and international initiatives.
IEDC, also named by the Financial Times as “one of the leading innovators in business education in Central and Eastern Europe”, attempts to balance focus on quality of education with need for innovation. The school uses art as one of methods for leadership studies, integrating it as a required element of Executive MBA curriculum and other programs. Other innovative core curriculum elements include a course on Sustainability for Strategic Advantage, and a one-on-one mentoring program with leading CEOs [3].
