Ie is a digraph found in many languages. In English, ie represents the /aɪ/ sound as in lie or the /i/ sound as in cookie.

In Maltese, ie is a distinct letter and represents a long close front unrounded vowel (IPA: /iː/) or IPA: /iɛ/.
