IE Business School is an independent, educational institution, consistently ranked among the top 15 business schools worldwide (Financial Times, January 2008, MBA Ranking, 1st in Spain, 3rd in Europe, 8th Worldwide, The Economist, September 2007, MBA Ranking, 4th in Europe, 9th worldwide, Wall Street Journal, September 2007, MBA Ranking, 14th worldwide, 6th in Europe, BusinessWeek, November 2007, Executive MBA, 1st in Europe, 15th worldwide). Founded in 1973 by Diego del Alcázar, the school runs master's degree programs, executive master's degrees, executive education programs, and a Ph.D. program. Approximately 1,500 students from 70 countries undertake degree programs at the school each year, with 3,500 participants in executive education programs.

48.5% of professors are of non-Spanish origin. The student body of the school's master, Ph.D. and executive education programs comprises 73 nationalities. The International MBA program currently comprises students from 57 countries, including China, Egypt, Korea, Singapore, U.S., Israel, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Nepal or the Republic of Sierra Leone. Corporate clients include Adecco, Amadeus, Banesto, Daimler Chrysler, Banco Santander, Heineken, Indra Sistemas, Pfizer, Siemens, Skandia, Telefónica or Uralita.

The School has offices in 17 countries and 35,000 alumni based in 100 countries.

The IE Business School campus is in the centre of Madrid.

[edit] Partner schools and institutions

IE Business School has MBA student exchange programs with 53 international universities. The School is one of the founding members of SUMAQ, a network comprising business schools in Spain and Latin America. IE has an agreement with Northwestern School of Law, with whom it runs a Master of Laws, and the Fletcher School at Tufts University, with whom it runs a dual degree in the fields of business management and international relations. The school also has an agreement with University of Chicago Graduate School of Business to run the Global Senior Management Program (GSMP).

Joint projects include an agreement with Babson College to run joint executive education programs in the field of entrepreneurship, and the Global Consultancy Program in collaboration with the Wharton School.

IE Business School (Instituto de Empresa) has a dual degree option that combines with MIT. Completion of both International MBA (from IE) and Masters of Engineering in Logistics (from MIT) can completed in 19 months. Both programs are top ranked in the world for the subject of Supply Chain Logistics Operations.

IE entrepreneurship projects include ICEVED-International Center for Entrepreneurship and Ventures Development (http://www.iceved.com), a virtual portal that serves as an interface for member schools, investors and entrepreneurs. IE is the Spanish arm of the GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor) Report, which studies the relationship between levels of innovation, the creation of new businesses and economic growth worldwide.

IE Business School Venture-Lab (V-lab) provides a support framework for students’ business projects in the form of access to a service pool for business start-ups.

Business plans form a core part of all master programs. 25% of IE MBA graduates set up their own companies.

MBA programs

International MBA

IE’s full-time MBA runs for 13 months, from November to December of the following year. The IMBA 2007 intake comprises 91.5% international students and 57 nationalities.

The program is divided into five modules and a pre-program covering quantitative methods and financial accounting.

Typical courses include methodology subjects such as quantitative methods, presentation skills and case analysis, and courses covering typical business areas like organisational behaviour, economic environment, financial accounting and marketing. Entrepreneurial Studies is a compulsory course in both the first and second periods. The second period concentrates on the functional areas of business administration, and the third takes these to an advanced stage. In the third period special emphasis is placed on implementing actions and strategies in organisations. The third and fourth period cover world affairs. In the fifth period of the program students specialise in specific fields of business management including functional areas, skills development, and social and ethical awareness.

The International MBA Program is a bilingual program, with the core program conducted in English and with electives in English or Spanish.

Global MBA

The Global MBA at IE is a blended program that runs for 18 months, using asynchronous online sessions and live interactive video sessions. Participants also attend blended sessions or community integration events at various locations including Shanghai, New York, London or Madrid. The program is run in English and the class profile of this programs currently comprises 27 nationalities and an average age of 30 years.

International Executive MBA

The IE International Executive MBA program is a thirteen-month program run in English. It is based on a blended format comprising presential periods in Madrid and Shanghai and periods of online learning. The average age of program participants is 36, and the student body, comprises 26 nationalities from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.

Master in Management Programs

IE Master in Management Programs comprise a series of degrees options:International Management, Marketing Management, Telecom & Digital Business and Biotechnology Management. The aggregate class profile of these programs currently comprises 38 nationalities, an average age of 25 years, 49% women, 51% men, an average of 2 years’ experience and students. The Master in Management Programs include periods abroad in cities that include Shanghai, London and Silicon Valley. IE Master in Management Programs partners are Accenture (global), Grupo Telecinco (marketing)Cisco, Nokia, and Telefónica (telecom & digital).

Executive education programs

Approximately 3,500 participants attending open and in-company program at IE Business School each year.

The English edition of the Advanced Management Program (AMP) was created in 2003, and in 2004 the Global Senior Management Program (GSMP) was launched. The GSMP is a joint venture with the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business.

IE Business School is situated at the centre of Madrid’s financial district. The IE campus currently occupies a total surface area of some 20,000m2 (including garage space). This includes 34 lecture theatres with an average capacity of 50 students per class–, 4 computer rooms, 57 rooms for teamwork –with an average capacity of 10 students per room– an Aula Magna and the IE library.
