Idylls of the Queen: A Tale of Queen Guenevere is a 1982 novel set in the framework of the King Arthur myths written by American author Phyllis Ann Karr. It deals with an event specifically related in Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur involving an attempted assassination of a Knight of the Round Table, generally presumed in the book to be Sir Gawain. Sir Kay plays the role of detective in this version of the tale, investigating the recent actions and motivations of a number of the characters in the Arthurian stories, examing many of the characters in techniques familiar to modern psychology, such as motivation, the background of the personality, etc. The novel's title is a nod to Alfred, Lord Tennyson's Arthurian poetry collection Idylls of the King.
