Idroscalo of Milan, originally conceived as a port for hydroplanes, was realized by the end of year 20's. Following the decline of hydroplanes, however, it soon changed into a center for recreational and sportive activities. In fact, the first rowing races were held in 1934.

[edit] Idroscalo Today

Idroscalo is now owned by the Province of Milan which has transformed it into a nice park characterized by many activities getting it to be known as the "sea of Milan". The province manages the park and provides many services including surveillance and organization of social and sportive activities. A recent sponsorship by a famous italian sportwear firm has helped improving the amount of infrastructures available within the park. These include water-ski, free-climb, mountain-bike, and running facilities. This sponsorship also made the official name of the park change into "Idropark Fila" for the period of the sponsorship. The lake is situated next to Linate Airport.

Main sportive activities practiced within Idroscalo of Milan are canoeing( kayak, canoe, dragon boat, canoe-polo), rowing, sailing, swimming, and water ski. Most important sport clubs are Idroscalo Club (from the merger of CKC and GMC), Lega Navale Italiana, and CPPC.

Among entertaining activities, Idroscalo is characterized by a number of bars and clubs particularly famous within Milan's nightlife. Also, the park has recently held many important concerts including the italian metal festivals Gods of Metal and Evolution Festival.
