[edit] Episode recap

After Garfield gets kicked out of a pet shop for treating it as a restaurant, he comes across Floyd. After some small talk, a dog that is being chased by a dogcatcher (Ralph) runs past them. Ralph takes his net and catches Garfield instead, and his boss (Mr. Mendelberg) then warns him that he will be fired if he makes another mistake.

After Ralph leaves, the dog comes back and growls at Garfield. Garfield starts barking; then he convinces the dog that he’s not a cat, but a fido felinus: a dog that looks like a cat. After the dog leaves, Floyd asks Garfield if that kind of trick will work when cats come after him, so Garfield teaches him how to meow.

Floyd gets discouraged because he cannot meow properly, but Garfield convinces him that it’s easy because he learned how to bark. He then starts barking again, and Ralph comes back and chases him. Meanwhile, Floyd continues his meowing, which makes the dog come back and catch him. After learning that Floyd was just practicing meowing, the dog demonstrates his ability to squeak like a mouse.

Ralph then comes back and catches the dog, but he gets confused when the dog squeaks. Ralph points out that only mice squeak, to which Floyd meows, causing for more confusion. Garfield then walks up barking, and Ralph catches him. Then Mr. Mendelberg walks up and reiterates the warning, but Ralph insists that Garfield is a dog. When he asks Garfield to bark, he meows. Mr. Mendelberg tells Ralph that he’s fired, but Ralph still says that Garfield is a dog; also, he says that the actual dog is a mouse and that Floyd is a cat. Two other dogcatchers then lock Ralph in the back of his truck and take him away.

The dog wonders what the three of them are supposed to do now, and Garfield states that they have a good act going, so he resumes barking, Floyd resumes meowing and the dog resumes squeaking. Overhead, a bird moos before it flies away.
