The State of Idaho (IPA: /ˈaɪdəhoʊ/) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States of America. The state's largest city and capital is Boise. Idaho was admitted to the Union on July 3, 1890, as the 43rd state.
According to the United States Census Bureau, in 2004, Idaho had an estimated population of 1,493,262 making it the 39th most populated state. Idaho has a total area of 83,632 square miles (216,632 km²) making it the 14th largest state in the nation
The state's postal abbreviation is ID and its area code is 208. Residents are called "Idahoans". Idaho's nickname is the Gem State because of its abundance of natural resources. The state motto is Esto Perpetua (Latin for "Let it be forever").
Boise High School
Boise High School is the one of five public senior high schools within the city of Boise, Idaho. It is one of four Boise School District three year comprehensive high schools and is located on the outerlying edge of the city's downtown business core where the North End and the East End meet. Current enrollment for the 2007-08 school year is approximately 1,409 students. The school's mascot is the Braves.
Newsweek has ranked Boise High in every top national high school list created topping all other Idaho schools. Considered in the 2006 ranking were school advanced placement exam scores. Boise High had 343 students who took 778 exams, 84% of which received a grade of 3 or better. For the same year the school had 17 National Merit finalists
Picabo Street
Picabo Street (born April 3, 1971, in Triumph, Idaho) is an American skier, now retired and living in Park City, Utah.
She was raised on a small farm in Triumph, several miles southeast of Sun Valley, Idaho, where she learned to ski and race. She attended Rowland Hall-St. Mark's School in Salt Lake City and participated in its skiing academy, Rowmark.[1] She first joined the United States Ski Team in 1989, at the age of 17.
Her given name was inspired by the nearby Idaho town of Picabo, Idaho, (pronounced "PEEK-uh-boo"), which in turn takes its name from a Native American word meaning "shining waters".
