Idaho Leadership Academy is a Liberal Arts Public Charter School. The owners of ILA believe an educated student has mastered general knowledge and skills and manifests a continuous love of learning. They believe that "he has developed a clear understanding of his personal ideas and values and has the ability to choose his role in society and serve his family, community, nation and world."
The owners opinion is that:
"Because all education is self-education, learning best occurs when students have a voice in their educational program and are allowed choice in their studies. ILA assists students in this by modeling scholarship, providing systems of accountability, offering coaching in skills of learning and motivating through inspiration."
Even though the idea that all education is self-education is not based on any research in the cognitive, behavioral, or neurobilogical sciences, the owners of ILA continue to pepetuate this idea.
Recently the ILA has come under fire by critics and local district administrators for having low test scores. As a result, ILA is no longer able to gain charters in the state of Idaho. [1].
The school's model is based on Oliver DeMille's interpretation of what real education should be. This method, known as a Thomas Jefferson Education is based on DeMille's opinions, rather than reason and science.
